Im going with Scam, happened in exactly the same way on a car i sold.

I had a mate ring me and ask it is look at an ad for a the Tuscan that was advertised for £6k 2 months ago. I said I can almost guarantee its fake.
He contacted them and out come the story's about working out of the country and and fed up with tyre kickers so just needs a deposit and a quick sale. Luckily he realised it was a scam!
