Ph1 Megane Coupe Alarm/Central locking issue

Wonder if anyone can help me.

Car is a '96 Megane Coupe F7R.

Basically Sunday evening I went out to unlock the car and the remote key didn't unlock the car. I manually unlocked the car (alarm going off at this point) removed the infra red sensor from behind the rear view mirror and it was covered in water. I brought the PCB inside, dried it on tissue and ran the hair dryer over it. Went back out to plug it in and the remote central locking and alarm started working again.

Mrs opened the car Monday morning and drove to work no issues. However after work the car would not unlock with the fob. I went to have a look, it hadn't rained since it last worked and the PCB was dry. I removed it and put it on the hot air vent on my car to warm it up a bit with no joy. Brought the PCB home and left it in the airing cupboard overnight on a sachet of silica gel.

Today the RAC recovered the car home on a flat bed. I tried it again this evening no joy.

I have downloaded the program to calculate the 4 digit immobiliser code and can start the car now, however the alarm won't go out and I cannot get the key to lock and unlock the central locking.

Any ideas what to try next or am I missing something? I only got 1 key when I purchased the car so trying a spare isn't possible. I have put new batteries in the key and can see it is sending out an IR beam when pointed at a camera phone. The RAC man also pointed it at his key tester and said the key was working :evil:

Just one question with the plip syncing tutorial:

http://www.retro-renault.com/forums/ice-electrical/59-plip-key-re-synching.html

the code is now entered - OK to here

after you put the last digit in the light will come on then go off for about a second then come back on, this time it will stay on for 30 seconds. - Yes it does this

You can now start the car. - Yes it starts, alarm still going off when running however

If you wish to re-synch the plip enter the code. - this is the bit where I get confused

When you put the final digit in the light goes out comes back on and back off again (i.e. the 30 second interval) press and hold the central locking button again and the doors should lock and unlock, remove the key and plip away at the sensor, in about 3 tries the doors should lock and unlock again.

The key should now be re-programmed and work as it should.

Is my understanding of the above correct? Basically once the 4 digit is entered, I hold the central locking button on the dash....the car locks then unlocks...I then point the key at the IR receiver and nothing happens.

try going to the scrapys and get another receiver and see if that fixes it I've also got a spare receiver if you need it

Thanks Chunk.

I have found a coupe breaking on eBay near me so am seeing if I can get it from that. If not I shall bear yours in mind.

Out of interest how much would you want for it posted?

Cheers Chunk. I shall let you know if the one locally falls through.

On a side not, if the IR PCB fails to sort the problem, is it possible and what would be needed from a donor car to be swapped over to get it working?

well I've just been out side and had a play with my megane after you enter the code and the light goes out and comes back on again hold the central locking button the doors well lock the unlock release the central locking button and just keep pressing the button on the remote hopefully it should work as to replacing the central locking unit you need another fusebox and key then to have synced up to the cars ecu

Thats exactly what I was doing, I got it all going up to the point where you point the key at the sensor and start pressing the button to re sync the plip...which doesn't seem to work. Fingers crossed on the replacement sensor sorting it for me.

Right small update - I got a known good IR Receiver PCB tonight from a car breaking locally. Fitted it tried the resync procedure again, but no joy. It by passes the immobiliser but the alarm will not go out nor will the key work the central locking.

Can anyone confirm exactly what would be required from a donor car to get this sorted? As I don't want to go throwing money at parts unnecessarily. Would a key and ECU from another car do the trick or is there more to it?

the button on the remote are common for the solder breaking looks like it's still working but it isn't mine did this to mine still lights up when point it at a camera but not send the proper signal

Yeah, the button looks good, no dry joints. Warmed all the joints up and put a little bit of solder on and no joy with the resync procedure again.

right never read it all I know I'm bad.

Ph1 F7R should have the aftermarket cobra/scorpion alarm immob, thats the issue not the standard immob.

These systems were fitted before going to the dealers and they cause all sorts of issues.

In all honesty remove it.

Small update on this. Took the car to Mick, he removed the alarm, and also found an issue with the wiring between the receiver and multi timer unit needed cleaning up.

The key was alright on mine luckily. The water had blown a track on the old IR reciever board so had to use my replacement.

Anyhow I have removed the ariel and bunged it up with black silicone and refitted so it shouldn't be leaking again.
