Petrol light

Weird one, my fuel light comes on when turning the ignition on so I know the bulb works but I've never seen it come on when I seem to be low on fuel. My guage will be what looks like the lowest and the trip comp will say 46 miles left but the light won't be on and I fill up cos I'm scared I'll run out...

Is this just me or does the light come on when really low? :s

I still havent seen my petrol light come on yet even tho the gauge shows that its low, i do the same as you and fill up in order to avoid the risk of running out of petrol!

Slightly off the subject where bouts r u from in Surrey?

Look at your range.. Petrol light comes on at 25miles to go at which point the gauge has been on the red for about 40miles lol

That's what I mean, my range will say 46 miles left but still no light!! I think I can remember reading an AUTOCAR review where they said that they ran out of petrol even though the range said 50 miles left!

v6had - I live round Kingston way mate, what about you?

The senders are incorrect on all vee's, I read this on the renault website where Jeremy confirmed this as being true...call it a personality trait or something like that but it's completely normal :D

So are you saying it's okay to keep going until I get the light?

In my car the needle gauge i never really look at but the range number on the computer is pretty accurate and i drive to that..

Drive it until the light comes on and you will still have 25-30miles worth of fuel remaining!

I think the handbook says keep above 2 gallons in the tank though?

I say this cos my car was in a showroom for some time on low fuel - the result was that the fuel pump rusted to bits in the tank cos it was not submerged and misfired badly so had to change it.

So ever since i've never let the fuel gauge go below half full which is probably overkill but better safe than sorry

I driven mine loads with the light on. Reserve tanks are usually pretty huge to be safe anyway. Mine comes on at around 25miles left but then I lose teh trip calculator telling me how many more miles I have left in the tank.

Yup always go by the trip and ignore the needle.

Well did a bit of an experiment, the light came on today and the computer read -- just after 37 miles remaining was displayed. I drove another 9ish miles to the petrol station and filled to the brim, my vee took 56. something litres so therefore roughly 4 litres remaining in the tank.

Yesterday, ran mine till the light came on, trip showed 26 miles to go, after a further 2 miles trip display stopped showing miles and went to a series of dashes ! made it to petrol station which was five miles away.

its what all renault clios do (new ones anyway)

heres the lowdown on the vee

needle get sto the red bit (right at the very bottom)

when the light does come on you have about 30 miles of sensible driving left,

Dashes replace the mileage countdown on about 28 / 29.

your safe for easy another 10 / 15 miles without turning it off etc (so just a continuing journey)

Its the shape of the vee's tank, needle gets right to the very very bottom before any light shows.
