i have thought this you know...

needle gets RIGHTT down to the bottom, computer says 60 miles left, and no sign of petrol light

my cup needle didnt touch the bottom like the v6 does, and the light would come on with 30 - 33 miles left on trip computer

its the shap of the tank i think

£12 fill up takes it from bottom to nearly half way, however a further £35 - £40 is needed to get it from halfway to the top...

Think this is down to the design/shape of the tank, its the same on them all.

You can watch the needle drop when it gets past the half way mark :s

Yeah ... it's laughably non-linear. Once it's down to a third, I know that I'd best fill up on the way home from work, or else I'll have the light on by the time I get to work the next day (30 mile round trip).

My light doesn't come on till the trip computer says like, 30 miles to go, and the needle is basically at the bottom as far as it will go heh.

My needle shows completely empty when the trip switch says there's about 70-80miles in the tank left! Only had the light come on once and that was when i dropped below 20miles on the trip, then a few minutes later and the trip computer was showing nothing. Think it's best to refuel when you get to about 40 miles left just to be safe.
I've had before when i've left the car with about 25miles of fuel in and it won't start a couple of days later due to the angle i've left the car at and the fuel won't get round so i've had to fill it up with a jerry can - nightmare!!

Also, can anyone else get their tank totally full? Mine only ever gets to like, half a notch or a notch away heh.

The main thing is that you keep your tank above 2/3 gallons of fuel as per the handbook.

My car was left with a low fuel tank whilst in a showroom for 3- 6 months - result is that the fuel pump actually rusted to bits / disintegrated because it was not submerged with fuel- e.g. when they took it out I shook the pump and it sounded like sand was in it with bits floating in the tank!

When I got the car it had a severe misfire at 4k+ when you get max torque and so need maximum fuel pressure at which point the rusty fuel pump was failing. Other thing I saw was that when I filled up with fuel and drove off it took 5 minutes for the fuel gauge to move from empty to full.

Weird my seems to work fine? Although at late the petrol light hasn't seemed to come on whent he needles on near empty

I usually fill a whole tank, do 200 miles then fill back to top anyway.
