Hi, need a bit of paint help. I have an engine panel that was rusted and had paint chips. I decided to take it off, strip it and repaint it. I am a complete amateur and never really done anything like this before so thought it would be good practice. Also as it is under the bonnet it doesn’t matter so much if I mess up.
I bought a paint kit that included primer, top coat and lacquer. I stripped the panel back to metal and applied the primer. When I first applied the topcoat I thought the colour match was pretty good but as dried it darkened. It is now quite a bit darker compared to the rest of the car.
I understand that there will be a slight difference in colour. The paint on my car is getting on for 24 years old and the paint kit that I bought was off the internet and not from Renault but I was wondering if anyone had any tips?
I had a couple of imperfections in the paint so I sanded them back and noticed that the colour of the paint that came off on the sand paper was lighter and matched the bodywork more closely. Should I polish or sand the paint? Or will applying the lacquer help?
Thanks in advance- sorry if this post is in the wrong forum.
