Opinions?

Have you considered a mk1?

If you are reliant on borrowing the money, then why not reduce your borrowing and buy a mk1 which is equally as good, just a little older :)

You will save yourself a couple of thousand AND pick up a very tidy example. Do consider it pal.

Dude, buy it anyway it'll be fine, you'll make it work if you love it, it's not like you'll have trouble selling if you have to! Reward outweighs risk every time! Should I buy one is a retoricle question

I ran mine for a daily runner for 2 years and they are good :approve:
Just remember to take it easy in the bad weather your fine. But after owning a vee you won't want to put it through all that and you'll decide to get another runabout  Like a 182

I use mine as an occasional driver doing 10 miles to work and back

Depends really what your drive is - stop start can be a pain with the clutch pedal not been so light - others might feel different!

Car parks with ramps means a couple of scrapes at the front plus a couple more turns to park up because of the turning circle

On open roads its fantastic especially with the kw suspension upgrade :) which seems to make even wet weather driving a doddle

Bills wise it really depends on how much and how you drive - I reckon on something needing a major repair every 2 years at 1k a time. That said they are fairly reliable with common faults been coils, but other stuff like air con or power steering pipes oxygen sensors ball joints can fail on top of routine parts like clutches brake discs cambelt etc

Mpg in traffic is 22 mpg longer runs is 30 though since my second car is a 5.5 litre amg Benz you can guess I'm not too worried about the price of petrol!

Be warned the attention you get can be fun can be a pain - I get bus loads of Chinese tourists in Hong Kong flashing away when they see the car - that plus dumb mini pooper drivers trying to race

That said I've had mine for five years and love it- it's that feeling owning something special compared to the rest of the cars in the car park. Firing it up and the janspeed exhaust sound bouncing off the walls. Driving the nuts off it with the sound of the engine roaring away just behind your ears!

That and always finding some new road to test your driving skills and high speed cornering means your often taking the long way round when popping down to the shops :)

Its no more expensive to run than any other 3.0l non turbo such as BMW's, Audi and Mercs etc. General up keep cost aren't bad either these days. Brake disks and pads are finaly available from APEC and EBC cheap enough and many other parts are also available from other reno models. The cambelt is the biggest expense so check if its done.

I can't see any harm in buying a car with a bank loan. You could have £15-20k in the bank and still take out a small loan to keep your head above the water. Actually, on paper, the banks would prefere to see a small 5 year loan paid off than £20k saved over the same time.

In reality, these aren't the best cars to own if you have a shoe string budget. However, if you think you can afford it then don't think twice about it. They are great cars with many people selling up only to try and buy another one years down the line. You will love one.

Buy and stick it back on for sale at 13-13.5k. Keep it and enjoy it til it sells which wont take long I'd imagine. At the latest the summer time with increased sales of most cars. Nice little profit for ya.

Very true Nas :approve: Potential profit/reward outweighs risk on this one tbh.
