Oil leak!!!

Ginagarus

New Member
Okay deep breaths into a paper bag, when I pulled up onto the drive behind the vee I noticed a dark stain under the rear and under closer investigation the undertray is soaked in a thin transmission like oil, are there any common or known oil leaks to the mk2 v6. I hate the thought of a trip to the dealers and leaving them the keys.... stress stress stress!!! :(

my gearbox went a little while back and after they replaced it(renault dealer), the new gearbox was pissing out oil. ended up being the rubber gator into which 1 of the drive shafts go into the gearbox, a new drive shaft had to be replaced coz you cannot buy the bit seperate!!

One or two have had problems these have been mainly low mileage, little used cars and people have ragged them before the oil has warmed upt etc. The seals need a film to keep them in good condition.

Well the car is at the main dealers and they promise only a short test drive in the car after last time they covered 25 miles checking an aircon compressor was working!!!!! , sadly they are the only place to go for warranty but have noted the miles and warned them not to take the p!ss again!!! As for customer service they told me they could not run me home as they only run people to the city centre now, the opposite direction from my house, they also told me they had no loan cars. When I started to turn a funny colour and mutter the car is less than two years old and under warranty the girl on reception picked up the tab for a taxi but had the cheek to say 'you'll know for next time'!!!!! Slightly different to when I took my vw in the other week and they offered a hire car as no loan vehicles were available at no cost to me with no prompting .... renault need to sort there act out!!!!! they had better not damage the car, not happy!!! Oh yeah almost forgot there's a weeks wait so they are going to fit it in as and when?

Well I called the dealers after they failed to respond on friday as promised, they reckon there is leaks from the casing and that they may rebuild or replace the gearbox and are waiting on confirmation from renault uk as to what they are going to do, hopefully replace!! My car is fairly low miles 13000 but not unused and is always driven hard however the car is warmed almost if not to running temp on the water gauge before being moved and driven very gently for about five miles or more before being beasted. I am a mechanic by trade and am aware of the consequences of driving like I'm possesed but it makes me

The oil leak is from between the gearbox and diff housing seamingly and the seal is a non gasket but sealant type of deal, metal on metal with some special renault glue? they reckon they have never seen a leak from here before? Just means that they still have the car and who knows when it will be back :(

It should not take them long to do the job once you know what is wrong.

The problem might be getting it in the workshop.

I had an oil leak and it was the sealing on the oil sump gone. Cost 60 to fix. Think it was caused by grounding the car.

They have been waiting on responses from renault uk as to what to do but hoping to get the beastie back this week mebbe? Don't know what has caused the leak, all I can think is the sealant was not applied enough during assembly or something?? who knows just hoping they put a new clutch in it at the same time as the old thrust was noisy and it slipped on changes into second under power... that along with the toxic smell if you ever tan the beast for any length of time!!

Result, answer on phone today stating a new clutch and flywheel have been fitted leak fixed and engine/box refitted and rear allignment all checked! pick her up tomorrow :D

Hmmmm rear alignment.

I bet mine is all to cock after my new gearbox was fitted by the stealers. Arse!

Peter

Ok picked her up and ran her straight home to wash and check for car park dints etc, looking good apart from the scuffs and oil all over the engine cover, they replaced the clutch, flywheel and also the slave cylinder as well as fixing the leak. Went for a run and thought I'd try this new clutch sooo... stopped the car blipped the throttle and dropped the clutch whilst jumping on the go pedal.... my god NO clutch slip, the wheels span slightly and it just catapulted into the wild blue yonder and again changing into second the wheels spun slightly and just pure acceleration followed eeeeeeeeeeeeeoooowwwww!!!! It absolutely rocks I never realised just how crap it was before, I love this car!! better be nicer to the clutch from now on :D :D :D
