Clio Not the usual sort of car for retirement...PH1 V6.

Same here, need to do some reading on bump & rebound. If you get a laymans terms version let me know lol

.

The guy who looks after all the cosmetic stuff on the car has a mate who builds and races VW Golfs professionally.....more importantly, he knows how to set a cars suspension up!

Allumy Motorsport – Race, Track & Road Motorsport Engineers – Nottingham, UK

The KW V3s have both compression and rebound adjustment. I know how compression works, I know how rebound works. I don't really understand how they compliment each other.

It's now booked in with him for a once over, corner weighting and set up.

Looking forward to see the differences.
ORLY? Does he specialise in anything or sets up everything?

@andybond

Will get back to you on that.

He asked me to find the factory spring rates of the KWs so once the car was there he'd have some figures to work with.
Only an assumption but I would imagine they could set up most cars if the physics of suspension is understood.....I have an extremely basic understanding although 2 mins on the phone with him made me realise that my knowledge level stopped at knowing there was a coilover on each corner.

Explained to him I wanted the car to feel like it was set up for track driving and he said it wouldn't be a problem however, once done it may need a little tweaking here and there afterwards.

I think he races in the VW Cup series.

All done and what a difference!

He took the car out for about 15 mins and on return he thought the steering wasn't reacting quickly enough and felt the alignment was out.

The rebound settings on the rear were 2 clicks out from one side to the other. He recommended a full alignment and then live with it for a week or so then would see about corner weighting.

Explained how I wanted the car to feel like a track car rather than have a fast road set up.

5 hours later having watched how accurately he was re setting LHS to RHS it's like a different car, steering is pinpoint ( although to me it was fine before ), car still rides very firmly yet any slight hint of crashiness has gone and the car now sits with a small amount of negative camber on each wheel.

The voodoo bit is definetly experiance and ability to translate customer requirements and translate feedback from the car to achieve desired result.

Actual measure, measure, measure, adjust, measure fun process not to difficult if your setting to a set geo. Outside of this bit im out and agree where a specialist comes in

Car looking great and certainly sounds like the company have done a great job ;)

Small update...

Got hold of a spare dash top and A pillar covers. Had an idea to get them done in alcantara until a quote of £1100 came in. Silly money for what's involved so may go down the flocking route.

Also got hold of a bigger bit....a full Janspeed exhaust system including branched manifolds. Very happy to have got this and it should be on between mid to end of September.

Had a good day at the Silverstone Classic.

Dropped the exhaust system down to SGM yesterday as was down for a service.

It'll be fitted as soon as he can get it booked in....along with a PH2 gearbox! Also having a stronger starter motor and a new air-con pump.

Anyhow, had a few hours out last night with a mate of a mate who's trying to get into automotive photography.

He's useful.
