I think it was the 2nd one, went to the 1st and turn out was reasonable, this time there was a brilliant turn out.

They came with the wheels,
The guy bought some generic ones, machined them to fit and then applied the decals....all from ebay.
 
Time for mad idea 496......mad ideas are a regular occurrence here!

Never been overly happy with the pale grey plastic oem engine covers, thought about maybe flocking them but decided not for me. When I got the clear cover to replace the inspection cover I only fitted it for shows and events....bit too noisy.

Now it's been on for almost 1yr and I love the noise....funny how things change isn't it?

Mad idea is removal of the complete engine covers and replace with a full clear one. Posted the idea around and about and within 30 minutes heard from a guy who is building a bit of a mental V6, when he had his first Ph1 there was a group buy of said engine covers and he had kept it, with a bit of luck and a following wind, it'll be with me next week.

Will fit and try for while.....if all good I could use his as a template to cut one. He said they're such a good fit they don't need fasteners, should be interesting! I think with the way the car now looks and sits, a completely on view back end will suit it.

Like the idea of this being on view, a bit of tarting up will be needed but that's no biggie.

I personally dont think the engine is that aesthetically pleasing so wouldnt go for a clear cover. However if its the noise you are after then maybe it can be considered
 
I kind of agree with you.

The thing is though, if we never have a look then we never know.....will have the full cover on loan for a bit which is ideal. I won't have paid for one plus I can see how I feel with it after a few weeks.
 
Update time!

Idea of a clear cover has been binned, I wouldn't be able to neatly finish the plastic covers on the side panels and that'd drive me nuts.

In the meantime though, I've managed to source another set of Cromodoras....doing a job for someone for just over 3 weeks (this retirement lark is going well) so can't collect until the 24th June. They'll then be done in a fetching shade of yellow and Yokohama AO52 tyres will be going on them...all being well this will, along with a couple of smaller tasks will be done during the first week in July.

Had photoshop pics done of various colours i.e blue, red, white, bronze, graphite but yellow was the best by a mile.

All sorted, well....at least until the next idea turns up.

All calipers repainted, decals changed where necessary and a few more changed simply because I fancied it we eventually finished at 0350hrs after starting at 0800hrs.

A detailer mate and his pal did all the work, I made the coffees and bought the pizzas....the guys a perfectionist and it shows in his work.

The guy who looks after all the cosmetic stuff on the car has a mate who builds and races VW Golfs professionally.....more importantly, he knows how to set a cars suspension up!

The KW V3s have both compression and rebound adjustment. I know how compression works, I know how rebound works. I don't really understand how they compliment each other.

It's now booked in with him for a once over, corner weighting and set up.

Looking forward to see the differences.
