Normal motorway/ dual carriage way..pulling left right

just freed up my breaks from serveare binding, not sure if this is normal, but on differnt road surfaces the rear seems to 'pull' as iff been blown by wind....when not windy...... i have michelin on the frint and a wintrac vredsteins on the back...... not been able to drive in the dry as its winter lol..... any one esle experiance this?

I had this when I changed my rears a couple of months ago - it would pull like a mad thing. John said it would stop when the new tyres bedded in and it did!

A little bit when I first had it. Can remember it feeling 'twitchy' at speed (130-150?) when I was messing around with an Escort Cosworth on the M25. Seems to have gone after I got the geometry set up sorted out though.

Think its been bvery windy in your area, this combined with the tyres could be the cause.

Check the tyre pressures just in case.

am running 30 on the front and cos there vredstein and run high psi any way dropped the rears to 35 which has improoved it alot..... im going to get bayliss to check my tracking aswell.... once thats done i can relax a bit...

Regardless of tyre make, should you always stick to the recommended pressures as in the handbooks for the MK1 and MK2?

As a start yes.

Then adjust to how you like the car to behave.

Would say 3o far to higyh for a Mk1 front.

Should be 1.4 bar, 20.3 psi front and 2.1 bar 30.5 psi rear.

Have found 20.3 psi at front and wight in front bin about right for normal use. Increase up for track.

Woah thats low - book suggests 1.6 bar / 22 psi and 21.1 bar / 30.5 psi at the rear. Thats what I am runnning and after all my previous nightmares with geometry, alignment and tyre pressures the car has been superb and have had no oproblems entering or exiting corners at speed!

1.6 is low - 1.4 at the front would seem over the top?!

These seem really high pressures, as the others have said they need dropping to at least the recommended or which ever suits you.

Manual is quite clear onn the pressures and they should be as stated above.

Miichelin also state those pressures.

They were set right at the beginning.

You must have a different Drivers manual to me for a Mk 1 then.

Out of interest have run with those pressures and the fronts have always given even wear and they last twice the mileage of the rears.

It is recommended that you fit all four wheels with winter tyres.

Also be carefull that the direction is correct as some have one direction only, also it is normal with these tyres to have a speed restriction on them.

Do not run two winter tyres only.

If you go against the above and have an accident your insurance could be invalid.

the vredsteins need 30% more pressure then normal rubbers, but i have reduced it down to 33 and my fronts to 29 which makes me feel more confident.... ive not really had much chance to change from my FWD ways and im still intimidated by the car lol.....

i dont have a mk 1 i have mk2..... how much different are they?

Mk 2 = Everyday is front 2.0 and rear 2.1

Track try 2.1 all round say 30.5 psig
