Distinctly old skool ... telephones / proposal forms / fax machines ... but very competitively priced and responsive.

I'd resigned myself to having to go with Admiral, who are absolute bastards since they've a policy of increasing your premium even for non-fault accidents ("because our statistics show that if you've had non-fault claim in the last 3 years you're more like to make a fault claim, and our underwriters won't vary that on an individual basis").

However, Noel Dazely sorted it for £180 less than Admiral (who were cheaper than everybody else even with the above crap policy). Excess is more at £500, but that's still only £150 more than Admiral and I'm not expecting to be claiming.

Net was £535, protected fully comp, 6+ years NCB, me and the missus, business use for me.

Who are they? What's their reputation like? Who are the underwriters?

I'm with elephant right now and used Admiral to drive my renewal quote down (they're the same company after all). But a cheaper quote from a decent company wouldn't go amiss.

They're a broker who focus on the performance market, and a Google shows that they've got a good reputation across a wide range of car owners clubs. I got their name as a personal recommendation from a friend who's always found them good.

My policy is underwriten by Highway. I've heard rumours about them being a bit slow if you need to claim, but ultimately they're a massive outfit with over 600k motoring customers.

Policy has all the usual benefits ... £60 windscreen, TPFT on other cars, loan car if your car is damaged repairable, and seems the motoring legal protection part of it is good according to what I've read.

Perfect! I've used Highway before with a modified car and they seemed OK - never had to claim though. Do you have a contact there?

Seems the head guy for new business and underwriting is called Dean. However, ultimately everybody I spoke to seemed to be on the ball.

There is a form that you can fill in on the website with the pertinent details ... they then go off and do the work finding out about policy costs ... and then call you back within a day to give you the quote.
