 :( looks like im not going to get a vee for a while, cant seem to get insured!! Im 19, 20 in march and im currently on my dads traders policy, when i first got my cooper s i had to go on a 2 hour driving test with the insurance company and then, they said i had to do an advanced driving test, because i was 18 at the time, but when i got back from the 2 hour one, they said i didnt need to do the advanced.. And now they say its going to be to much for the vee. not got an exact quote though. i also phoned a company up, who specialise in young drivers who have modified or performance cars, and wait for it,,,,, he quoted me £9000  . i nearly had a heart attack!! So gutted. So if anyone can recomend a company that could be of help, could you let me know, cos i just have to have a vee!!

Joe

Joe, :D

All is not lost....get yourself into the "insurance" section and have a poke around on there....think it's fair to say, at some point or other we have had nightmares regarding insuring our Vee's (I had a right time back in July/August time) - Matt is currently having the same issue...

I think there are a lot of insurance companies out there who seems to specialise in 'young' drivers on performance cars, some of the guys on here have brilliant quotes with low or 'no' claims bonuses. :)

Top of my head....I'd try:-

Elephant
Bell
Admiral
Direct Line

But to name a few...if you have a mooch round the insurance sections, the guys on here have posted numerous companies...

You might just land lucky...dont' give up hope yet and Good Luck.!

Hi Joe,

Too bad about that, as Jainy says there may still be hope.

I have to say though these cars can be lethal to drive, especially for drivers who are maybe less experienced, and the insurance companies know it.

cheers for the replies guys/gals, im still trying, just asked greenlght for a quote as they have given some people good deals on here, hiya matt, no i havent tried confused, i might give them a ring and see what they say.
cheers joe

Greenlight were good for me and they will accept modifications including replacing those modifications in the event of a claim! They also do track day insurance on a per day basis and it was very reasonable (£85 for Donington as an example).

Go on to their website mate and fill in your details it then checks 100's of insurance companies. They got me Admiral last year for £600 quid!

thats an awesome price, ive just been on there and they couldnt find me anything, also just phoned greenlight and got a quote of £8000, just a joke.

just spoke to elephant.co.uk and have a quote of 3900, but he said he could get it down to 3500, which is a massive difference to the others ive had, going to see if i can still find cheaper, but dont think i will do,

hmm I couldnt get quoted by elephant til I as 21,

I cant see you being able to get it done mate, as annoying as it is. :(

.....Joe.....as much as it pains me to say this....have you tried Adrian Flux...??? http://www.adrianflux.co.uk Their quotes are cheap, they're a total pain in the a*se to deal with though, especially from an admin point of view....but if you can put up with that and they get you a decent quote, who cares.....!!!

Try them - anything is worth a shot Joe....we need to help you get that Vee...!!

Jainy
:D

:) cheers Jainy, yer i tried adrian flux, they just refered me to someone else, but all is not lost, i just had a quote from bell, i put my dad as the main driver and me as an additional driver and its around 1700, so am pretty chuffed at the min, going to phone them up tommorow just to make sure, :):):):):)

Hey Joe....(sounds like the opening line to a song that..!! )

What's the latest on this hun...? Did you get sorted..?? More importantly...is a Vee within your grasp...???!!! :D

Jainy
:D

hiya jainy

nah not that gd, i phoned bell up and they said that the offer on the net wasnt accurate, it was so unacurate that they said they wont insure me now, lol the elephant deal still stands as i phoned them today, they said they could do it for £3700, which considering my age isnt that bad.
will keep you posted

Hey joe, try admiral and if you have a Mum/sister/gran with a good driving record, try putting them on your policy as a listed driver.
The price dropped by £150 when i put my mum on the policy when insuring my 306 rallye.
Gawd knows how they work that out but its got to be worth a try??

cheers phil, yer ive tried admiral, no luck im afraid, tried loads, bell, admiral, esure, churchill, greenlight, bricks&motor, more than, direct line, etc etc, ill have to see what my dads insurance say again as hes ringing them tommorrow. just getting fed up with it now, if i have no luck i spose ill have to wait.:(

have you tried confused i got a quote of £1000 im 21 with 3 years no claims :D

Oh.....no Joe.....that's pants....thought you might have got sorted by now.....gutted for you hun....:(

how do u young guys afford the cars let alone the 3.5K insurance?

(sounds a bit condecending as im young myself)

-best advice is to get a year at least under your belt...experience etc and a years no claims on a slightly less powerfull model???

-after that the v6's will be even cheaper and u may have a better chance getting insured/ might not end up in an accident.....

a year will fly by.... what u gonna do with all the power anywho

---------but i guess that goes without saying and no one ever takes any notice

-supose another way of thinking about it, which may be more apealing is... take a year on a lesser powered car , save ur self 2k in insurance, then with the exra cash add some engine mods to the v6 the year after if u think u need power.....
