Blueprinting in its technical and original sense is to rebuild the engine to the set tolerances of the designers original drawings, for every component.

However in generic terms, and what many builders advertise as blueprinted is a simple rebuild with nothing special going on.

Proper blueprinting as its called now, is to rebuild an engine to specific tolerances on original components, and to modify small areas to increase efficiency or reduce pumping losses, picking up 1/4% or 1/2% here and there. If you get this done the builder should be able to tell you exactly what he has altered and why, and provide a blueprint data sheet.

Blueprinting is building the engine from scratch and using the Mnaufacturers tolerances to your advantage.

Such as max. cylinder bores, lightest con rods, max lift on cam shafts, min. cylinder head capacity, etc etc.

That is todays altered take on 'blueprinting' since a blueprint does not contain any tolerances, only manufacturing does.

Don't forget one other important aspect, the balancing and equalizing of the weight of all the moving parts.

All pistons exactly the same weight, and so on.
