Nissan 300ZX Protection Detail

Well-Known Member
A good friend of mine, and small Renault fan (some of you will remember him from Ace Cafe nights and things. Had the ratty black phase 2 GTT and B18FT Campus), came over with his cool Nissan after reading about clay bars and wanting to find out what they do.
We went through the whole safe wash process, a quick polish and some protection.
Here's how it went...

First up, wheels.
Wheel backs, faces/spokes, tyres and arches.

The car gets a snow foam mix as a pre-wash to soften the dirt on the surface.
While that gets to work we use an all purpose cleaner and some soft brushes to clean out all the tighter spots and rummer trims and seals.

The car is pressure rinsed and then washed with the 2 bucket method.
Dried with plush microfiber towels. There was a car waiting inside, otherwise we would've done this out of the sunlight.

Inside we went through the different clays, the pros and cons.

We used the clay from @buffinstuff with a Meguiars rinseless wash as lubrication.
A quick demo and then Mark got to work claying all of the bodywork and wheels.

You can see what the clay has picked up n just a small section of the bonnet.

Once the car was complete, we applied an all in one polish using a microfiber applicator pad. (Auto Finesse Tripple)
This has chemical cleansers, light abrasives to take the edge off of any swirling, fillers to mask the defects a little and a bit of protection to leave behind.

A layer of ODK Wax Eclipse was used for some more durable protection on the now nice and clean paintwork.

The exhausts were still a little grubby.

Polished with Auto Finesse Mercury.

The wheels received a coat of Auto Finesse Mint Rims to help prevent brake dust and dirt sticking so much, as well as making them much easier to clean in the future.
The glass was cleaned, tyres dressed, interior hoovered and cleaned up a little.

The finished results.

If you have any questions about any of the products, procedures etc. fire away :)

Thanks for reading!

@andybond These were pretty badly scratched too. There's a few steps you can take.
  1. Metal polish on a microfiber cloth
  2. Metal polish on #0000 Wire Wool
  3. Metal polish on #000 Wire Wool
  4. Metal polishing attachment for a drill
Just like polishing paint, work up the scale as needed, then work back down to bring back a good shine :)
