New to Renaults, not new to classic cars

Hi All,
I'v just signed up and mad to restore my new project i just bought a few days ago. Now i must be honest, i am a mad Ford fan and have had a lot of RS turbo's and a MK2 RS2000, and i am currently restoring a series 1 RSturbo.

A good friend of mine had 2 Ren 19 16V and i tought they were great which got me interested in them. With that in mind and a few quid in the pocket i set out latly to find one. I picked one up on done deal not to far from where i live which was a bonus.

The weird thing was is that i found out my mats brother owned it for a year or two before selling it to the guy i bought it from, and my mates brother i think bought it from Chet and i found a thread on the site here on the car so i can trace the cars history of which i'd like to know more.

Now enought of teh backround, i plan on restoring this car to original as it has only 76,150 miles of which i'm told is correct, and only do small millage to keep it low. The cars needs a few small jobs, notting major. Firstly i have a set of original wheels being re-stored as we speak so i can take them crappy white ones of her. I bought a full leather interier yeasterday for 100euro which is in perfect nice.I need to sort out a high idle proble, fix the ignition barrel and the ride is way to hard. That said it only received a timing belt kit, water pump and brakes all round before i bought it. only 100 miles done since NCT also.

Sorry about teh poor picture as my camera is crap and it was getting dark, o and by the way i'm a mechanic and that my garage behind the car which i am nearly finished setting up. I have 2 sissors car lifts which will make any job half teh battle to do rather then the ground

I hope i haven't gone on to much on my first thread and hope to put up pictures of the progress along the way.

regards
brian

superb stuff young man!

always good to buy a car where you can trace the history of it, and theres no hidden suprises.

also good to see more members signing up from across the water

sure larry posted a link for this somewhere, how much did you pay as if its the same one it was a bit pricey ;)

I paid 1,650 euro for it (around 1400 pound). Cars are more expensive here in ireland to start with. It is a little to much but i dont mind to much as it has low miles and doesn't need much work at all. I could buy something for half the money and spend a lot of money and time getting it right. There a fresh NCT on it so i know it's not falling appart either.

I dont plan on selling it as i will restore it 100%

I was sent the link below of the car when chet was supposed to have owed the car, I dont know who chet is so i must PM him to say hello and get the history of the car.

welcome along brian, truly sexy car right there, i think chris may have also owned this at one point, could be wrong. She's a stunner and best of luck with her, hopefully now that there is more interest building on the 19 on this side of the channel we'll at some point have some form of mini meet or something to that effect...

again welcome along to here

ps: yep jay thats the very one i had linked on some thread a while back

Hi Bncrew, thanks a lot. Sure a meet would be nice some time. Along the coast road some summers hot day not that we get many of them. Once i get started stipping the car i will have lots of questions relating to getting the car as original as possible.

As i have said i am a mechanic and have my own workshop so if anybody in the area needs anything done in the near future give me a shout. Or if you just want to through the car up on lift to give her a look over, i wont charge.

I am really into my cars and love helping others which anybody that knows me will tell you.

Regards

Brian

Its a good car, second only to Neals. Chris will vouch for it.

Ph1's are wrong with leather, do the decent thing and keep the cloth 8)

Dude i agree with chet, i love the cloth seats in the 3 door ph1s, that red stripe is synonymous with the classic retro style

The cloth it is then, i did think they had to stay in order to keep the car as original as possible. The leather came up cheap but i guess ill keep them for a Phase 2 sometime.

dont make that offer mate or youll have a steady stream of 19's filling up your driveway... gotta agree with the lads i actually prefer the cloth to the leather too, just looks more retro and a bi sporty, even on the ph2 hatch i prefer it

No the seats are not ripped at all, stiching coming away very slightly in 1 spot but i'm getting that fixed. I dont mind anyone calling to give there car a once over, infact i'd be delighted to see oter renaults. I promise i'm not like all the free checkovers garages are doing now where they do a so called free safty check and hit you with a list as long as your arm. Did you ever hear such crap...most of the things dont even need doing. Your break pads are nealy gone mam and it just so happens we can do them for 80euro.. My unkle went in to advance for a tyre and they told him his break pads were gone and i had only done them the week before. It's just a money scam those places..

Aye theres a lot of scams out there alright, Soon as I'm back in driving form I may swing up that way in the cabby just to enjoy the Renault vibe, I'm delighted to see another enthusiast over here, we are a rare bunch... Prob be doing a lot of work on the cabby between now and then get her up to scratch maybe even source some original wheels for her too
