New MOT Test Rule.......

Lankan

Anybody heard of this new MOT rule (excerpt from the Renault Alpine Owners Club forum): LINK

"I was chatting with my local and usual MOT tester the other day and he told me that due to a new rule in the latest raft of MOT changes my Le Mans will fail because the door has "dropped"!

By this I mean the hinges have excessive wear and when the door opens and is supported only on the hinges it drops lower than it should and I have to lift the door from the bottom as I close it so that it shuts and does not damage the bodywork or the door.

This MOT failure is linked to a new rule on hinges and this includes bonnet and boot hinges as well as door hinges. Apparently if the door/bonnet/boot does not close smoothly as designed and needs to be lifted or guided in some way whilst being shut it will fail!

He is a very understanding tester and says this is a ridiculous rule and I have to agree, how stupid is it to fail a car because of a worn hinge?"

Sounds a tad strict. Can he not get the hinge fixed or scrap the car?

Indeed, I am sure he could get it fixed or the car scrapped, but just wanted to know whether anybody had heard of this (new) rule.
