New MOT Info

Things that worry me:

Dashboard lights
Airbag lights; without resistors these will be on for those that have fitted aftermarket seats. Not clear whether this in itself will cause a fail though.

Seats
"It must be possible to secure the driver's seat fore and aft adjustment mechanism in two or three different positions."
This could bugger people with fixed base seats with no sliders :s

"The vehicle will fail the test if any airbag fitted as original equipment is obviously missing or defective".
Again if you've changed seats (to Pole positions for example) the seat airbags will be gone. Also those running non-airbag steering wheels the same issue will arise. Assume these will both be classed as failures now :s

Worrying! Lucky i've got a friendly MOT man! :)
Sounds like we all may need one !
I'm sort of glad I didn't go for the group buy on seats now, guess we will have to wait and see what the implications are.

That should be ok, PP's use the original Renault sliders? It's a pointless ruling though as no one else drives the car, bar my old boy and he doesn't need to adjust the seat position.....

I was thinking more about the airbags

I've just sent those jobsworths at the dot a message asking for more info on seats which are not adjustable, but are also as intended.

That's me royaly fucked then! Fixed seats, no airbags, lights on my dash . . . . . Just glad the harnesses and seats are FIA approved lol These things come up every year but little changes. Ill be helping a mate build a Street Eliminator (2000 bhp road legal race car) this year and the MOT changes won't be on our minds to be honest.

7.1.5. Airbag
Visual inspection
(a) Airbags obviously missing or not suitable with the vehicle. (b) Airbag obviously non operative

I wouldnt interpret those as an MOT failure for aftermarket seats without airbags.
It's only my interpretation! I hope I'm correct.... [smilie=icon_eek.gif]

If they talking about failing cars for seat airbags not working or missing, whats the diffence between a seat cover over ur OEM seats the airbags in the seat wont deploy properly.
unless they start stating about the use of seat covers are not permitted techincally i cant see theres a difference between aftermarket seats without airbags fitted.

Can these NEW laws be applied retrospectivly to mods already carried out, if was legal at last years mot it should still be legal now.

just my 10p worth as i only have 1 air bag left LOL
