Mysterious misfire .

I've suddenly required a bad misfire since replacing my exhaust system for a full janspeed one .it seemed ok to start with ,but on a trip to London it just started to run like a pig with management light on .managed to limp all the way there and had my brothers mate who's a ex renault mechanic have a look .he straight away presumed coils and replaced all six and spark plugs to be on the safe side, but it's still bloody doing it .now it's at r sport in Wimbledon where they think it's got something to do with the new exhaust and a remap I had years ago .anyone else had anything like this happen before as it seems very odd why it would do it. :s

Might be a faulty lambda sensor if you've gone for the full system? Obviously these will need removing with the full system so a split or broken wire caused by movement could be a cause.

Id say lambda sensors as well - you can buy the Bosch oems for about 50 quid each as I remember on ebay

Not sure if it's just a coincidence but the car I'm buying had a similar problem after a Janspeed system was fitted. From the owner's description it lost power, smelt as if it was over-fueling and was misfiring. The cause was the cats had collapsed, blocking the exhaust. New cats were fitted, and a few months later the same thing happened. The cats were removed altogether and the problem was solved.

I had exactly the same symptoms and remedy in a Lotus a few years back. You just have to find a friendly MOT man after the cats have been removed.

Thanks for all the info ,I think the cat failure theory could be right because they've told me they are getting weird readings before and after the cats.has anyone else with a full janspeed system had this problem with their sport cats ?

I doubt that is a problem with the cats. There is obviously a cause to them collapsing or being heavily damaged. Namely a fueling issue likely caused by a faulty sensor.

Agree to faulty lambda sender
Can cause overfuelling and destroy cat(s), also misfiring due to faulty lambda can destroy/break up cats

Sounds like either the rear or front cats have collapsed.
I had A similar problem two weeks after I had A new full system fitted, which was made by Janspeed.
Janspeed took it back under warranty and upgraded the cats with better quality ones that were made in Germany.
I've not had A problem with it since.

Once again thanks for all the info . Jamie I'm glad to hear you had no problem with them replacing yours under warranty as it looks like I'm going to have to do the same thing .

Found out it is the down to faulty sport cats ,was wondering if anyone else who had to have theirs replaced managed to get their labour charges refunded by janspeed as I think they should ,as no fault of mine they packed up .

Paul, do have a word with Scott (SGM) - I remember he was dealing with a very similar issue not too long ago.

I hope you manage to get it sorted sooner rather than later and to your satisfaction........

All the best.

Eventually getting vee back next week after all the faulty sport cat fiasco.janspeed replaced them with different ones from Germany ,which begs the question why they are still fitting the obviously crap faulty ones which me and other vee owners ended up with.hopefully I'll be the last ,otherwise I can't see many other vee owners investing in one.they at least paid the labour bill ,which was over £500 by the way ,with out to much aggro but a hell of a lot of phone calls involved getting there :s

Glad to hear that at long last you are on the verge of getting this resolved Paul. :approve:
