I've waited a while before posting this for a couple of reasons. I will address these in this post.

I had #243 booked in for a 5 year service at Motech on recommendation of those here who have used them (Martin, Mossy, Sammy etc) It was booked in for the 13th July for the same job as Paul had, this breaks down as follows:

Full cambelt kit with all rollers.
Auxillary belt.
Waterpump.
Full Clutch kit.
Clutch slave cylinder.
Change gearbox oil.
Change brake fluid.
Coolant change.
Air con regas.
Spark plugs.
Oil and filter change.
Air filter removed and cleaned.
New cabin filter.
5 year service.

Motech told me that the car would be needed by them for three days, 2 usually to do the job and one in case they encounter any issues when doing the work :approve: The car was dropped off by me on the morning of the 13th and i was met by both Andy and Tony (Father and son) They immediately put myself and my fiance' at ease, were friendly and had a coffee waiting for us. They gave me an indepth explanation of what work was going to be carried out, (this i found very useful as im not the most mechanically minded of people) Andy had been trained in Dieppe by the Renault guys themselves and his knowledge was first class. They had worked on many Vee's previously and have gained a good reputation for themselves as specialists.

I was kept up to date through a series of phone calls by Motech, informing me of the progress and what had been done. All this helped to put my mind at rest and i felt comfortable that the car was in good hands. I caught the train up to Ledsham on the Wednesday and Tony was waiting at the station to pick me up. There had been no problems and the job went well. Tony informed me that I had a very good and clean example of a Vee.

A tour around the car with indepth explanation of the job carried out, an exchange of £1350 and a box of removed parts loaded into the bonnet and it was time for me to make my 2.5 hour drive home. The car ran fantastic and always it was a joy to own.

That weekend i headed down to Kimbolton for my first v6clio.net show

Last week i was driving back from the local Tesco and could hear a noise coming from the engine, a whiney kind of noise...one of those thats hard to describe. I stopped and popped the boot up and took the clear cover off. Im not used to things going wrong on the vee so was a little panicked tbh. The noise sounded like a cross between a pump and an air leak (very unusual to describe) I have a video clip of it i can upload if anyone wants to hear it.

I made a couple of calls and had people come round to have a listen (BIG thanks to Addz, Mossy, Ezra Sugden (mick)) No-one, myself included knew exactly what it was. This concerned me even more, I had a contact who could put in me contact with a Renault technician that had worked on V6's in the past. He used a renault diagnostic machine on it but nothing came up on the tests. The issue clearly wasnt mechanical. The technician then used a stethascope to listen inside the engine to determine exactly where the noise was coming from.

The noise was directly coming from inside the plastic Cam Belt cover. Obviously it couldnt be immediately identified as the cover would need to be removed. but my first thoughts were Motech, they had carried out the extensive work there 4 weeks ago. I called Andy to explain the situation and he immediatley requested the car. I wasnt prepared to drive it so enquired about recovery, The RAC wanted £250 to recover as apparently our policy only entitled us to 10 mile recovery. Motech paid the RAC. My partner checked the small print on out policy and it clearly stated that we were entitled to free recovery to anywhere in the UK. I called motech back and had them cancel their payment and booked the free recovery. 2 hours late on the wednesday morning the RAC low loader turned up. A 3 hour journey up to a service station ensued before i had to be unloaded and loaded up on another recovery truck!! (apparently it went outside the drivers area, and someone else would be taking me the last 24 miles)

The car arrived at Motech at 12 noon wednesday. I was greeted by Tony and we pushed the car into the garage. They had cancelled their days bookings for me which i was more than grateful for. A cup of coffee was next whilst we waiting for Andy to return from running an errand. Within the hour, the cam belt cover had been removed, there was a tiny mark on a small area on the inside. It had been rubbing ever so slightly (less than a mm) on one of the roller/pulleys. I could barely see the mark, and found it hard to believe that it was that that made so much noise. Parts were put back together minus the cover to start the engine, sure enough the noise had gone. The belts and guides were checked, then double checked, they were all running true.

The guys couldnt explain why it was rubbing since everything was running fine, One possible explanation was the cover itself had slightly warped with the heat, but this has yet to be prooven. Either way it was rubbing, and what was the proposed fix?

The guys built up the inside of the bolt holes with a hardening compound by a mm, this would act as a spacer. A while later the car was taken apart again, the cover fitted and put back together. The key was turned, engine kicked in and.....no noise! With such a dumb problem rectified, i was happy and the guys at Motech were relieved. They had concerns previously that they had made errors with the service and already contacted renault about the issue prior to me getting there.

One final thing....the guys had lunch waiting for me upon my arrival, a small but significant difference, as i was leaving Andy gave me £40 for petrol money to get home, i was a little embarrassed but they wouldnt take no for an answer, The apologised for the incident occuring, a round of hand shakes and then i was off home in the vee. It sounds perfect by the way.

So...

What can i say about Motech that hasnt already been highlighted by this post?

not much to be honest.

Would i take my car there again? - YES...Every time. Customer service is beyond question. They know what they are doing, are very friendly and are quite frankly, the only people i trust my car with.

Great write up mate. Its nice to know we have specialists up this end of thwe country too.
Impressed reading how they dealt so quickly with your problem and excellent customert service.
More places should take note!

now that is excellent customer service. i would defintely recommend them to anyone after reading that

above and beyond the call of duty and just the sort of service that would seal a long term customer.

That is an example of exemplary customer service - the guys are great and do all the work on my cars (that I do not do myself).

Just goes to show that dealing a customer service issue in a positive way can generate such loyalty and trust, resulting in repeat business and further recommendations - something which is key in commercial organisation but often lacking in small operations, often because they just don't see the relationship and just focus on the impact to them in terms of costs and time to put things right and not the customer ...

Good write up I had nothing but praise for them when they did my car :approve:

On a side note Tony is a bit of a Renault fan he runs a R5 GT Turbo if I remember correctly :race:

This thread and the service delivered gets a massive :approve: from me.

That is exactly the sort of service I would well be prepared to travel a considerable distance for and great to hear about.

Fantastic service like that is rare, I am so pleased that Mothech is only 7 miles from my house. I will be using them for my cam belt job in October

Glad you got it sorted mate, it was definatly a wierd noise!

Mines about ready for the aux kit change and a service so might just have to give them a bell.

Really pleased you got it sorted easily Wayne :approve: I had my car there in January for the Cambelt and 36K service and was impressed by their knowledge and customer service [smilie=icon_cheers.gif]

Just spoke to Andrew as I need a small job doing and I mentioned this post and what had been said - he is pleased and grateful about the positive feedback on here and re-iterated, basically as a small business, he stands by the work he and Tony do with regards quality and warranty and putting any issues right :approve:

Martin

Well Well, I never.. :)

Tony does infact have a Renault 5 GTT as Im in the process of speaking to him on RTOC (yep, I still love/own my GT Turbo as well) regarding my leeky green fluid on the Vee! It took me the entire post on here to realise it was the same person! *lol*...Well, at least I now know I can take it to them and they're only 10 minutes away!! :approve: Think Im going to be popping over with the car so he can take a look at my leak! [smilie=boohoo.gif]

WOW!!

Just read this and from what i understand these guys seem to be the 'Business Class' of the garage world. Can't remember of ever hearing of customer service like that before.

Glad you got it sorted Wayne.

Hi,
Paid a visit to Motech this morning to book my Vee in for the same list of work as Looch after reading the report on the level of care that they give I would be a fool to go anwhere else.

Nigel.

Sounds like a superb company. Excellent in everyway and even tells you to accept some money in return for the petrol needed to get home.....1st class is that.
