Hi,
Im looking to obtain more power from my clio v6 phase 1. I live in the west midlands. Any advice with the potential from you guys would be really welcomed :-)

Have you had a chance to browse the 'Special Projects' section?

It'll full of positives and negatives stories, reflecting the dark world of dabbling in this process.

I have a 285bhp Ph1 that had an interesting brush with death!

The easiest win is to swap for a Ph2 and fit lighter (and more supportive) seats, lighter backbox and lighter induction.

Thanks for the reply. Im pretty green to this forum business and computers lol, i will try and find the special projects area :-). I do hear though that trying to gain more power from the phase 1 can be expensive for relatively minimal gains ?

Here you go Dean quick link to Special Projects
Happy reading and as you say

I'd like to see someone get some throttle bodies bolted on and running correctly with a good mapping and see what results they gain :salut:

It might not be what you want to hear, but I would advise don't bother. Pound for pound its a major waste of money. Typically expect to spend 5-8k and gain 25bhp, or 10-15k and gain 50bhp and thats assuming you can get hold of the parts at reasonable money.

I have driven phase ones with standard power, 255bhp and 285bhp. Even at 285bhp, your only up 20% at peak power and its at the top end where the gains are so subjectively doesn't feel hugely faster on the road, just a little more rampant as you close in on the redline where a standard car tends to fade away.

Your best of with just doing an exhaust and a filter to release a bit more noise. Unless you have money to burn and a very strong passion to do it..... in which case :salut:

Do you remember the Outpace car Phil? [v6plaque]393[/v6plaque] made 300bhp at the flywheel on throttle bodies mapped by Tommy Field Motorsport a few years back.

NA tuning is akin to standing in a cold shower tearing up £50 notes.

If I ever decide to make my car a more effective killing machine, it'll be a supercharger, or a complete engine swap for a blown 2.0 4-banger. Likely, an F4R Turbo, because I know I can buy off the shelf bits and see 600hp for less than what it would cost to see 25 horses on the V6 NA motor.

But then I think i'd rather lavish the cash on having 500hp/tonne in the 21.

Engine swap is the way to go and not because of the engine being no good but because the gearbox is wank. Peugeot fiddlers in europe are messing with earlier type L7X's and getting well over 400hp reliably using many stock parts. Maybe the 5 speed gearboxes are more stout. Carl Chambers might know.
I wish I had the bottle to move the lower cross member forward by 10mm as the Audi lump I had in mine last year would have been right at home with an easy 450-500hp on tap using 100 oem parts. I always said fit the engine to the car and not the car to the engine though so I'm much happier with a circa 300hp 3.5l n/a motor and strong gearbox fitting in a 100% stock bodyshell. Also the price of said items......£500 for the engine, £75 for the gearbox, $300 for brand new bellhousing direct from Nissan and more bolt on upgrades than you could shake a stick at. With research (alot of) and using OEM parts, prices need not be extorsionate for a road based car. However, there is also the after value of the car to think of but that doesn't really apply to me as I bought mine when they were rock bottom and have no intension in selling it for money sake.
