Modern Classics Magazine - Clio V6....

Lankan

Active Member
....has made it into the second issue of this magazine: OFFER

The 182 Trophy was featured in the first issue, so it was only a matter of time before the Vee was featured. The quality is not comparable with the likes of Ocatne or Classic Cars, but the content wasn't too bad for an inaugural issue. Definite room for improvement......

Did the publishers approach the club, or a member for details?

I ordered a copy earlier :approve:

I believe the content came from a journal Murray Scullion who Renault UK recently loaned there LY.

I bought it today in my newsagents. It's certainly a huge growing market - 80s to 00s sporting cars so the magazine could do well but the paper quality is poor - its not glossy which impacts the photos a lot - yet they still want near CAR/EVO money at £3.99.
Content interesting though and more importantly most of the cars were less than £30k unlike EVO where most are Over £30k!
But of more interest the Clio article is excellent!
4 pages, just on phase 2. Talks about how it is a "baby supercar" not just a hot hatch. "incredible bit of kit"
All positive about the engine, performance, sound and even recognises the road holding and handling is great with caution needed only in the wet. In "90% of situations on the road the snap oversteer road testers talked about will never happen. It's all about slow in/fast out.
Pricing recognises the recent rises. "in 2008 a decent one cost £15,000 and by 2015 that's doubled to £30,000. " Highlights R5 Turbo prices now at £60k+
Trade view "Definite future investment potential and most are looked after and cherished examples belonging to club members" :)
Conclusion "The Renault is more amazing now than when it was first released" etc.. Something we have all realised.
Only error was saying there are only 173 left which is the figure on howmanyleft.co.uk for registered cars but they forgot to add the 72 SORN making 245.
Mug shot and quote from Chris ;)

Build the revs up to 4000rpm,dump the clutch, and the v6 fills the cabin with a bellowing war cry,as the car grips, and digs in,and hurls itself to the horizon with no wheel spin............

Please don't try this or you could either
1. Break the clutch cover
2. Break the diff
3. Break the diff retaining circlip(or bend it as one lucky person this year)

Either way it's expensive unless you have Renault uk's car then it's not a problem!

My mate in work handed me a copy of the mag last week, hence me now looking on the forum again after a long spell away.
The paper quality of the mag was terrible, like auto mart /auto trader used to be, with similar quality prints.
Still got me lusting after a Clio V6 though.

Interestingly bought the first edition of this mag few weeks ago , quite good content but as others have stated poor quality print . Wondered why the V6 wasn't mentioned in its ten future icons feature and when they would be doing a write up on it , clearly it seems , didn't have to wait long ,will have to pick edition no 2 asap

I thought it was the best write up on the V6 I have read! With more weight towards the car being fun/ good to drive as well as just an oddball unusual concept.

Very complimentary with the only negatives being the interior and high seating position. In fact I thought the article was so good one of you guys must have written it

Are 'good' examples really 30k now!!!! ?

Yep! But there are not hundreds of buyers do sales haven't sped up.
At least 3 cars have sold for over 40k recently though which says a lot.

I think I need to revisit the insurance price guide.

Wow, that's fantastic, I thought over 20 was good going. [smilie=icon_eek.gif]

I think will consider my insurance more carefully next year (agreed value etc...)

Blimey, have they really gone up that much in the last year? Good to see the gap narrowing between the Ph1 and Ph2....quite right too!
