thankyou Dennis,

I have the car booked in to be checked over by the stealers, fingers crossed!?

Ive also printed the guide for future reference

Did you geta result on this? I've just had my MkI in for a Geo check (Horiozn Motorsport - highly recommneded) I'v been experiencing something similar, again only really noticable at higher speeds.

They took a look and found the toe-links were worn, they wouldn't do the geometry check until these were replaced - with these worn you getplay in the suspension and the wheels will move from side to side - which would give you the weaving at high speed?

Mine's going back in next week to get these replace tand then a Geo check. I'll keep you posted.

i have a similar prob but mines not when cornering just driving straight at say 70mph+ any luck ideas what's causing mine?, seems to weave about

p.s and no im not pissed lol

my mk1 was handling as described.....ive noticed that there was a bit of play in the track rod ends,so ordered these all 4......bloody ridiculous price also..£120 plus vat.....fitted them yesterday, car of too get the wheel alingment done again on tuesday, will post then the results....

Toe links replaced, Geo checked - and its back to hw it used to be - bring on the B roads!

Can't recommend Horzion enough - great guys who understand cars and Vees!

I switched my wheels over yesterday for standard wheels still but with Toyo's on

Just took car out and slight movement of the wheel and car wobbles.

Didn't do it on the old wheels?

Now could this be.

1.) because my rear wheels have been balanced and the fronts haven't
2.) I had to hammer the old wheels big time to get them off as they were corroded on, is it possible this hammering could of thrown the geometry out?

I've got the engine being dropped out by GDi soon for cambelt change and wondering if I should hold out till then? but if it's a cheap fix of tracking or something i'll do it now as the car isn't really driveable at all.

out of interest mate...how much do gdi charge for the cam belt...and do you get water pump etc?

Yes water pump and hard to say as i'm going to be having lots done not just cambelt + i'm going to be leaving the car for about 2 weeks for them to do when it suits them.

Ie. also having brakes changed, 36,000 mile service, etc.

I had a "specialist" misread toe settings once and put toe out on the rear instead of toe in.

This was pretty frightening as after hard acceleration I would lift off and the rear would dance left and right making it very unstable.....driving sedately you wouldn't notice and it might even go around a corner nicely too.

i think mine might have a similar problem, it seems to hav a mind of its own when you go above 80 mph - on private roads.

its perferectly civil up to 70 so its fine for general road driving, but id like the issue to be resolved.

is there a way for an amateur to tell if the toe is wrong or do i need to go to a garage?

Ddouble,
Your trouble is in the rearend of the car, probably worn out linkeage, or bad wheelbearing. Actually anything that changes the toe settings on the rear. So you can lift the car and try to feel if there is any play in one of the rearwheels, as said bearing or toelinkeage. If the wheelbearing came loose, unlikely, you can fasten it yourself, but if the wheelbearing is gone, you need some tools to repare it. If the toelinkeage is worn, you need an alignment anyway, which you can't perform yourself.
Hop it helps.
