MK1 Gear Knob

New Member
Seen a few posts where to get a cheaper Mk1 Gear Knob but might be out of date :(

Seems mine has lost the insert / damaged, dealer fitted another to my car for now but I'd like to keep it original

Not sure if i can buy just the insert or have to buy the whole gear knob?

Grateful for help / any useful contacts

Jonathan

Not many parts listed for it.

There is a Phase 1 Gear knob for sale on eBay UK at the moment for £99.00 or Best offer although it has been polished to a mirror finish. It doesn't say whether the insert is still intact or whether they will post it internationally but it does say "If you have any questions just ask" so you never know.

eBay Link

Don't know if that is of any use to you but just thought I would mention it just in case it helps.

Yeah I saw that but then heard can't re-use :(

James part no 7 on that diagram is that the insert? If so got a part number? I have the gear knob they said the insert was damaged so if can buy separately then better

There is a plastic insert inside the gear knob itself. Mine melted then cooled then completely disintegrated when I lifted the reverse lock-collar and the whole knob fell out.

I think my mechanic used some tricked-glue to glue it back on whilst being about to retain the spring movement. Sorry couldn't be of much help cos I really don't how he did it. I did managed to get the car under the sun quite and the gear knob stayed fast and didn't move a bit.

mine also came loose. the inside rubber and thread that hold the gear in place spoilt. i also ask my mechanic to use glue to glue back the gear knob. but dont know is it successful or not
