Michelin Pilot Sport 2 Front cost

National said they would check my tracking for nothing - but will need to get it adjusted properly by Renault for the camber settings etc.

Don't mention Kwiks*it to me....wouldn't take my lawnmower to be repaired by them monkeys! Well the ones in the Lancaster branch anyway. Dad had a hell of a time a couple of weeks ago with them changing a tyre!

Matt quite a few of us have had the tracking done at Demon Tweeks - they know what they are doing which is more than can be said for most of the Renault Dealer muppets [smilie=icon_eek.gif] [smilie=icon_eek.gif] I thought it was well worth the trip :D :approve:

I only say the following as I see tracking and alignment (4 wheel) as two separate things, which may be wrong ...

I'm not sure whether National or any other non specialist would have the knowledge to be able to tell you whether the full wheel alignment was correct as per factory v correct as they see it - which probably equates to to parallel front/rear with some negative camber at the front.

I guess each individual place would have staff with different levels of knowledge, enthusiasm and car types and specialities etc.

Front tracking may be a different story though in terms of it being easier to check as I see it but this can sometimes manifest itself visually as uneven tyre wear over an above that which is expected with negative camber (insides wearing faster). Uneven tyre wear at the back of the Vee is also a visual sign something is un-toward ...

Demon Tweeks usually charge on a basic cost then a per angle basis for adjustment, can't remember the prices but around £100 is a good guide all in. I do seem to remember it's £15 per axle angle adjusted on top of the basic charge. Mine took only 1/2 hour and I got mine done for £54 but others have taken over 2 hours and cost more due to stuck bolts etc.

Well guys! Went got the tyres fitted today at National Tyres. Great price all in, HOWEVER.....Got home checked the wheels and the buggers have scratched (actually gouged) my 2 front alloys when tightening the wheel wrench nuts (it needs an extension arm to get right in properly which they obviously didn't bother to use). I've phoned the customer services/complaints department this morning and they have passed it onto their Regional Manager to telephone me. Luckily I have photo's before and after but got a feeling they are just going to say that the wheels were like that before (even though this is the first time in 3 years since new they have been off)

Obviously, much cheapness came at a cost! Not happy at all........ :(

Hi Matt,

Unfortunately this can happen as ideally the front wheels need to be taken off not only with longer sockets but also rubber coated ones.

Many Vees have this issue so you are not alone despite it being annoying ...

My wheel place offered to re-paint all 4 of my wheels but in all honesty I didn't want the whole set re-doing for a couple of minor scratches in the front wheel-nut holes which, in my case, are easily touched up ... Consider this before you have em done as a re-paint job may not be to your liking with colour matches etc.

Just food for thought :-) Stand back and take a deep breath and then think about what you want to and can do about it ... I felt bad too but you know these cars can't stay showroom perfect all their lives and sometimes mistakes can happen without intention and where taking corrective action may make matter worse ...

Sorry for going off track a little but where do you get your hands on rubber coated sockets? Tried ebay with no luck.

Thanks in advance :)

A few turns of gaffer tape around the socket will do the trick. Its often the face of the air tool vibrating that damages the rim rather than the socket scoring it as it turns though. As someone else suggested, an extension is required or state a preference for hand tools only, they should oblidge.

Sorry to hear about that Matt [smilie=icon_eek.gif] but I'd have to agree with Martin - despite what the wheel repairers say I think that they'll be unable to match the factory finish perfectly.

Hi guys, Dont forget your local renault garage they can be both helpfull and cheaper than you think, weather they can or will fit them to 17/18in rims without scuffing is a question to be asked, And dont forget to barter with people (its a buyers market dont forget) for example: ive just got a puncture in my rear trye at a petrol station, and they are willing to pay obviosly will need them both done but need to get two quotes as they have already told me they will pay the cheapest. I got a quote from renault for £300 ended up getting them done for £250 fitted, balanced tell them renault quoted 280. then as i did show an interest in having the front ones done, handling not to good , only want the best etc. Two weeks give them a phone ask for a price theyve got to make a bit more money out of you this time but not to much because youve allready called their bluff using renault, £280 fitted week later phoned them and ordered.

This was quite a big wheel and tyre centre that done the work, and remember its war out there between trye centres where ever you are in the country

And totally agree with K1ANO :approve:
