They're not higher profile (well, they are but they're not).
Because the fronts are a thinner tyre the sidewall isnt as tall. The wider the tyre, the less profile you need to keep the same tyre height.
A 225/40/18 is the same height (and circumference) as a 255/35/18. 225 is the width, 40 is the height of the tyre as a percentage of the width and 18 is the rim size.
(225/100)*40= 90
(255/100)*35= 89.25
If I ran a 255/40/18 it would be 102mm tall, and that difference in tyre height (circumference) would totally - out your ABS system and turn it off and light up the dash every time you drove it.
