Michelin Front Tyres

225 on the front now back to 205 just feels better, and 265 on the back .And no problems !!

Where did you get your 205s from?

EDIT: Just realised you were referring to your tyre sizes here.

Just coming into this late because i need to replace the fronts after sidewall puncture at the recent and brilliant Borders run. Had 205 Yokohamas for several years because i could not get mpss in the original size. Have always run 245 mpss on rear. Must say i really rated the Yokos up front. So my dilema? Another set or go for the larger 215 mpss ? Suggestions?

Had the same issue, went for 215 MPSS, to match the backs.

Had no issues - and handling seems fine on the MPSS; loads of grip in the dry, and handle the wet weather fine.

I found no handling difference when switching to the "recommended" Michelin alternative tyre size on the fronts, but I just don't like the way the profile looks.

Really looking forward to finally getting some Michelin 205's back on the front!

Are Michelin still recommending the slightly higher profile tyre on the fronts?

They're not higher profile (well, they are but they're not).

Because the fronts are a thinner tyre the sidewall isnt as tall. The wider the tyre, the less profile you need to keep the same tyre height.

A 225/40/18 is the same height (and circumference) as a 255/35/18. 225 is the width, 40 is the height of the tyre as a percentage of the width and 18 is the rim size.

(225/100)*40= 90
(255/100)*35= 89.25

If I ran a 255/40/18 it would be 102mm tall, and that difference in tyre height (circumference) would totally spaz out your ABS system and turn it off and light up the dash every time you drove it.

First outing with 215/40s PS4s on the front. New PS4s on the back
No issues. No ABS issues.
The tyre noise seemed less than I remembered on the old tyres, or maybe I'm just getting used to it...or going deaf.

Didn't realise this, thanks for the correction! :approve:

Cool, what did you run before moving to MPS4s all round?

Indeed there are no issues with 215/40/18's on the front, but in my case changing from Falken FK452's, that were on the car when I bought it, to MPSS 205/40/18s gave much more feel to the steering, and less understeer, but I put that down to the MPSS being in another league to the FK452s. Installing KW V3's and a geometry set up has made it rather neutral, just as I like it.
