Megane Megane 225 questions

Just debating whether to buy a Megane 225, I've seen an 05 blue Megane on EBay and at a glance for 2K it doesn't seem too bad. I'd like to have it purely as a toy, a 3rd car, stripped out, 1 bucket seat, track it when I have the free money.

So, if I did buy it I'd go a bit PMT, l'd spend no more than 1K on it for mods. PMT as in are there any homebrew mods that could be done to it geometry setup wise etc

In my head with 1K
Cooksport Springs
Remap
Bucket seat with 4 point harness
Refresh of OE suspension, tired parts?

What else?

Apologies if it's in the wrong thread

Done 16k miles between MOTs (which it just passed) and clocked 133k.

Parts changed since last April:

- both TRE
- both inner axial joints
- steering rack bush
- rear pads (TRE)
- ARB drop links
- anti twist links
- four tyres (URRS3)
- second set of TRE
- EGR valve (sh from eBay, like new)
- EGR cooler (what killed the valve as it was leaking)
- all new gaskets for the EGR x 2 as fitted cooler once I knew it had failed after first EGR swap
- 5l of TypeD coolant
- elf Oil (7l)
- Ren oil filter
- Ren fuel filter
- Ren air filter
- LED sidelights
- headlight bulbs (Xenon Nichtbreakers)
- temec window module (FOC due to recent replacement by previous owner that failed)
- fog lamps + lamin-X
- door handle switch (eBay switch soldered into old unit)
- three sets of tracking
- steering swivel bearing

Parts waiting to go on that I've bought recently:
- full set of new CUP dampers
- new Eibachs
- new Ren top mounts
- R26 anthracite wing mirrors
- rear xenon arm (threaded bar and ball joints)

From that what did I actually need:

- EGR valve
- EGR cooler
- one tyre
- rear brake pads
- oil and filters
- coolant
- steering swivel bearing (completely seized)
I just felt like freshening the rest of it up. [emoji2]

The meganes are suspension component heavy but still they can be fairly cheap to run if you are not scared of getting your hands mucky and sniffing round for parts at good prices. The killer is the prices of mods, uprated clutch etc. I personally think mpg is one issues that could cripple most people on a tight budget.

Which is why I run the derv option. No point saying it's fast because its not although it sprints from 50-90 quite well. But it stops and turns better than most other TDs of that price range! I like it too!

To be fair the derv version is pretty awesome. I hear the engine is good.

It's a great engine. Very very smooth.

We've also got an old 106bhp 1.5dci that the wife uses with a six speed box and that's surprisingly nippy!

I'd like to take advantage of the RS tuning group buy the next time you run one. DPF delete plus map should see it strong!

Ok so things are moving on smoothly, I'm negotiating a price for that Clio Cup Sabelt seat and should be picking it up tomorrow. I'm also in discussions with a chap about a Megane 225 and looking into viewing at some point this easter weekend with the view to putting a deposit down. So, be prepared for a project thread starter soon.

I'll be honest I'm not sure what to expect, I've never driven or been in one but I need something to do and fancy doing a trackday car _20160228_160047.webp
