Megane Megane 225 questions

Just debating whether to buy a Megane 225, I've seen an 05 blue Megane on EBay and at a glance for 2K it doesn't seem too bad. I'd like to have it purely as a toy, a 3rd car, stripped out, 1 bucket seat, track it when I have the free money.

So, if I did buy it I'd go a bit PMT, l'd spend no more than 1K on it for mods. PMT as in are there any homebrew mods that could be done to it geometry setup wise etc

In my head with 1K
Cooksport Springs
Remap
Bucket seat with 4 point harness
Refresh of OE suspension, tired parts?

What else?

Apologies if it's in the wrong thread

I'd ideally want one that has had the clutch done - although confirming it may be difficult - I doubt a std flywheel could last more than 10 years though? maybe someone could correct me?

DIY suspension - there are camber bolt products, but heard nothing but horror reviews. Don't think you can shim the rear, which would be pointless anyway if no camber up front.

Cooksports and the right toe setting should tranform the car - new cup dampers as cheap as chips - £55 each, so the 2nd hand market has plenty of cheap sets also.

I'm hearing lots of electrical gremlins on early 2005 and 2006 examples starting to bite a little, things like steering lock failures etc.

Lower arms are not being made by renault atm (they've been on backorder since August, when I tried to get one!), so if thats an issue you'll need powerflex bushes to refurb them instead - and its like c£150 for the bushes alone - so bear that in mind.

Are you going to be welding subframes to the chassis of the car for the bucket seat potentially?

and FWIW (just my opinion).

I'd have an Intercooler over a remap for a track megane if I couldn't have both........

the stock intercooler is tiny and off the 1.9Dci, with a remap, it can't even take 1 in gear pull properly without the temps jumping 35 degrees.

Std map and intercooler > remap and std cooler for me

Quickshift linkage is a free mod on ph1. Cooksports, better pads up front, good brake fluid, sticky rubber, strip out and bucket/harness would be my choice of mods. Fix all the suspension if necessary. Stock power is ok to be honest - more is better but if the budget does not allow it is adequate..

This is what concerns me about buying a Meg, cost of parts, maintaining it compared to when I owned the Clio RenaultSport models
There are no two ways about it , megs are not cheap to run. As long as you are aware of that you are ok, however , once you get ahead of the curve like I did they certainly become cheaper to maintain.
