Major Service - What needs doing?

Matt

New Member
Hi,

Done a search but only found bits and pieces about what needs doing at the major (5 yr service). I've already done plugs and air filter.

gearbox oil?

thanks,

Matt.

Belts and most people do the water pump at the same time as you got to take the belts off to get to it. Thats about it, dont think i had my gearbox oil changed, I did have my brake fuild changed at my 4th year service.

No sure what is supposed to be changed,is there anything listed in the service book?
I would ask for including the above suggested :

Anti-freeze
Gearbox oil (the correct stuff for the Clio v6)
Air filter
Pollen filter (the profit maker item) ;)
Air con re-gas and anti fungus additive

Best to check the service book as I suspect/know that many owners tend to miss certain things due to the overlapping mile/years scheduling.

For example, it is easy to miss things like coolant and brake fluid changes which are required at specific year boundaries (I think 4 years) as cars can often do less miles in the 4 years than would warrant the changes on a mileage only basis.

A cam-belt change is an ideal opportunity to 'catch up' on any missed 4 year service items ...

Thanks James. Just had a look and Service schedule states 5 yr or 72K service should include:

Engine oil and filter change
Air filter
Brake Fluid
Coolant
Cambelt and rollers
Replace the door opening remote control batteries
Clean and check the air conditioning system

Just booked mine in for a major service and i'm having the following done:

Cambelt
Water pump
Fuel filter
Air filter
Clutch kit
Spark plugs
Oil filter
Pollen filter
Oil change
Aux belt
Brake fluid change
PAS fluid change
Coolant
Air con recharge

Hopefully it doesnt need new discs ;)

I had better start saving too! My 5yrs is due March plus MOT so I may as well do all of the above and get it all over and done with!

If you are taking it to a Dealer then it's best to find out how much the NHS will pay for your kidney and lungs. Then double that figure and that should nearly cover the bill!!!! :approve:

That's a big old list!! Got mine due in March, thought I'd saved enough but looking at that I don't think I have!

Ive budgeted for it to be the wrong side of two grand. i guess the trendlines will have to wait :violin:

Have you not asked how much before it goes in?

Fair play to you if you have the money for it.

Does it really need a clutch kit?, spark plugs?, brake fluid not wait till you need new pads? pas fluid, when is the interval for that?(what miles are you on?).

Yes mate ive been quoted £1800. Its done 36k and never had new plugs and i cant see the clutch lasting until the engine comes out again so id rather do it this way. I really cant imagine selling the car so im happy to spend the money on it
