MAD

Not sure that I should start this thread, I've been reading through all the special projects, some of them go wrong and some fizzle out never to be heard of again, very few make it to a conclusion ! Will this one ? It's very much long term as time will be my limiting factor and I doubt there will be regular updates !
Some of you will know that I bought JP51 MAD a CAT D Iceberg Phase 1, at least this is a start ! Previously I bought a nice original Mars Phase 1 with this project in mind but then couldn't bring myself to mess around with it !
I've had the car about a month now, found time to give it a once over and I have to say things are a lot better than I expected.
Brakes (discs and pads) are all new, looks like red stuff pads, the OEM Koni's have been rebuilt, some of the steering and suspension joints have been renewed, the wheels are 18" split rims and tyres have a 35 profile, it handles very well as is. It has Trophy coils, I think a pipercross air filter and maybe a quicksilver exhaust.
Momo steering wheel, Recaro seats and some Sabelt harnesses. Also has a Trophy rear spoiler. Oh and a rear diffuser of sorts.
I guess this is an ok start.
Braking I shall leave until last, maybe just a different pad material for now, until I know final weights etc.
Was keen to try Arno's suspension especially with options for front and rear ARB but I'm so impressed with it's current handling this can wait for a little while.
So first job is to ditch some weight, pulled out all the redundant wiring, old audio, road pilot, tracker and alarm stuff at the weekend. Total weight 10 Kg !![album]16307[/album]
So between now and August the plan is to tidy up what I have and get everything working well ready for Origine RS, I've booked a bit of track time. this will give me a benchmark for when the fun really starts !

Nice one Ed... I think Kett is spot on, saying we all should have a second Vee to play around with! Flippin wish I did!! Lol

And thanks for your Origine RS track time purchase and support. :salut: [cmilie=iconcheers.gif]

Mirror backs and splitter done.
Colour scheme obviously inspired by the vacuum cleaner.
Which gives me an idea ------- a sort of vacuum type arrangement to suck the car down, similar to the old F1 Brabham fan car, may need a couple of Dysons to get enough effect ???
I'm getting really excited about this project now !

Brake callipers painted in 'stealth' metallic grey, a vast improvement over the previous red.
Braided brake lines fitted.
And a further 4Kg in the bin, don't ask me where that came from!

Ed, you really have got something there to play with. Look forward to the final outcome - a 'Fan Vee' sounds exciting ;)

Bit of time over the last couple of days, managed to sort out all the remaining electrical gremlins. ( It's incredible how annoying it is to have one axis of a door mirror not working ! ) Hopefully if I have time tomorrow I'll run it to the weighbridge.

That's disappointing 1360Kg

Listed in the knowledge base at 1355Kg

A standard Ph1 must be way more than 1355Kg
My oem seats, interior trim, soundproof stuff, outer engine cover, all airbags, seat belts etc. etc. have gone.
Will get my Son's Ph 1 weighed at sometime just out of interest.

My target weight of 1200Kg is looking hard to attain.

Weights are confusing:
I've seen weights quoted without fluids, with fluids and with/without nominal driver.

In my case you could knock off 10Kg for the fluids. Deffo no driver. Renault must have left a lot of heavy stuff in the workshop ! [smilie=icon_eek.gif]

MOT yesterday, all good of course.
Good excuse for a blast !

I've got a bit ahead of myself, it's ready for Origine RS as per plan but I'm itching to get the engine out now. So do I get on with it and ditch my track time in August or hang on until after and hope I don't lose my enthusiasm ?

Still can't believe how heavy it is !

Tough call Ed.

It would be a shame to miss out on OrigineRS track time and the process might give your a 'steer' (no pun intended) to your next phase of development.

Any news on the suspension though? This could be done beforehand..
; )
