Not a happy person...
As some of you know my car has been a work in progress for what seems like an age (an ice age to specific given the glacial rate of progress). Now, fast approaching it's 24 month (yes you did read that right 24 months as in 2 years) birthday in the workshop I was, shall we say, a little "disappointed" when I popped down to check on progress last Friday.
Have any of you been to the site of a commercial fire by any chance? This was about the 6th or so one I've been to
Given this was 3 days after the fire they still had 1 appliance, 6 fire inspectors and a loss adjuster on site and access to the building had only just been granted.
The police believe that an unknown scrote or scrotes decided to alleviate their boredom by setting light to an Audi parked outside the workshop, the Audi has it's backend right under the workshop window which conveniently allows light in through the day and as it happens exploding fuel tank in by night. Cue one rather large fire estimated with a peak temperature of 1500C and a flash over.
I don't know what's happened to my car - it was "protected" under a mezzanine level but no ones been able to get near that end of the workshop. The engine was on a stand quite near to the initial fire point but seems to have escape damage due to shelter afforded by the not so lucky car above it.
I used to work for a Loss Adjusters who did a lot of work in negotiating commercial fire claims so I know the process and it's a long one. If they've agreed a final settlement in 2 months they'll have done well and that's got to happen before the workshop can be rebuilt (assuming the steels were not structurally damaged - which on the front mezzanine they definitely were). So the project goes back once again.
I've got used to refering progress as glacial but now we need to go bigger than that so officially it has become a project of galactic timescales...
