I personally found the engine to be a lot more responsive. It spun up quicker.

the only thing it didnt do was when lifting off the throttle it didnt run on as long. I didnt find that an issue though.

I would get it as light as possible just because you can. @Brigsy has a drastically weight reduced flywheel IIRC.

Heavier flywheel = Smoother engine but less responsive, easier to "drive" with.

Lighter flywheel = Lumpier, revs drop faster off throttle due to less stored rotational energy, easier to stall. Better throttle response.

It's whatever trade off you are prepared to make. Ask @la21t who tried my super-light billet aluminium flywheel after I re-upgraded and took it back out again because the slow moving driveability was tosh (he lives in London mind).

Hmmmmm I dont know that I noticed a 'greater' throttle response but I added the flywheel at the same time as the cam and headwork.

However based on how awful it was in traffic, I'm going back to lightened standard one. I'd gotten mine down to 5.5kg before fitting Daves one, which is about 1kg over the alloy one.


I described it as like driving a diesel with a shagged DMF.

3.6kg slotted flywheel on mine done by ctm back in the day. No disadvantages, revs better, low speed driving no different. Win win on a turbo car.

Alloy flywheel will cost a fortune mate. As far as im aware there is nowhere local that will do it (well no where i would trust) send it off to ctm and get them to slot the original

I was at CTM recently as they are sponsoring me again this year.

Spoke to CTM and they said they can do a 5 slot lighten for £180+vat. They also said they can also do a 9 Slot for £250+vat.

@Clarkey i didn't ask about group buys. Thought I'd leave this up to you seen as though you know them

No bud he didn't. I Was using the works phone in the office so didn't want to have a massive chat when I should have been working

used to have a 9 slot, was found on a cheap £50 engine i got as a replacement, win. should of kept that! revved very well, no noticeable downsides
