The block is 505-515 long. That is from the cam verniers to the gearbox bellhousing mounting face.
It is 650mm high. That is from the bottom of the sump to the top of the inside 2 verniers. Obviously you will have to take into account the inlet manifold which varies from ph1 and 2 cars.
It is 690mm wide from the outer most points of each camcover.
Hope that helps fella. If there's any other measurements you need feel free to ask. I should be able to give you bellhousing measurement next week.
I'd actually say its a very compact unit considering its capacity and layout. The bi turbo lump I'm converting mine to is much bigger other than in height and its .3 of a litre smaller. Thats mainly down to the fact that the Reno lump is a 60* v6 and the audi is 90*.
The Renault lump is quite heavy.........actually that's a lie.......it's VERY heavy. My best mate reckons a short Chevy small block weighs about the same!
You say the 4 pot lump is 400mm wide? Is that with the exhaust and inlet attached?
fair enough do you have a project thread for the audi lump? have you considered a nissan VQ engine instead? i.e. what was your reasoning etc? just interested like...
That's odd that its so heavy considering its a cast ally block?
yeah about 400mm including a slight backwards incline, so about 350mm if just measuring across the rocker cover. no that did not include inlet (another 250mm or so bolted to the front), or exhaust.
So yeah, thinking about it with inlet and exhaust etc on the 4 pot, i guess the v6 lump is quite compact... quite tall still though.
Yes its on our special projects page. I did consider the 350z lump especially as its used in megane trophies. Pound for pound though it plays second fiddle to the over engineered vag lump all day long. The stock S4 lump is good for 520 hp on upgraded turbos and the RS4 even more so. Add the fact that a Passat or A4 2wd gearbox is good for 6-700lb/ft without tearing it apart and it makes a great mid engine package. An of the shelf bottom end upgrade will see 700+hp. No need to spend a furtune upgrading the top end either. N/A 2.8 heads can be bought for pennies and are considered adequate for anything but the most extreme builds.
