BUT
I can't help but wonder on a personal note why a vehicle that has 17,000 miles on the clock, has been ragged around a track (presumably by various drivers), thrashed up a hill at Goodwood, has a dubious and uncomfortable looking leather interior and certainly would not be my first choice of colour has fetched this amount. It's not even a one owner vehicle!

Are you questioning why someone would pay this much for a Clio V6, or why someone would pay this much for this particular V6? If the former, I sort of agree, you'd only spend this kind of money if you already owned everything else you could buy for <£90k. But it sounds like this chap probably has! If the latter, I can understand why this is 'the' most expensive V6 so far, rare colour, rare interior and some pictures to put on the wall of the garage of it doing interesting things (a bit like having a car that has done the Monte Carlo rally or the Mille Miglia... sort of. The track work becomes irrelevant when you consider the refurbishment work. Plus who says track work is a bad thing, try buying a 911 GT3!
Would I pay £90k for a Clio V6*? No. Do I understand why someone might, yes, particularly from the perspective of someone who isn't in our small V6 world. I don't think Cat D lime green ones will ever been viewed in the same way and my 86k mile car probably won't either! So all we can do is enjoy the entertainment it provides.
*Unless I already had a full garage, loads of money and I really wanted the best V6 I could find - which is my point.
