Read a lot of posts on here tonight about starter motors and wondered what you guys think this could be.......

Replaced my battery two weeks ago with a Bosch S5 027 63Ah 610 CCA from Euro Car Parts.

Driven the car twice since. Today started first time in two weeks absolutely fine. Did two miles and stopped. Slightly laboured when started again as if battery slightly flat. Drove 4 miles and stopped. Started ok. Drove 3 miles and stopped and won't restart. All electrics working fine. The starter doesn't turn it just makes like a faint quack of click. Only way to get it started is a bump start. Even cold it's the same thing.

Prior to new battery I had also noticed an electrical relay type buzzing noise coming from the passenger side in the last few weeks that seamed to disappear after 20 mins.

Could it be the new battery isn't suitable or is it the starter??

Any ideas gratefully received.

Cheers.
David.

As James says, sounds characteristic of a faulty starter motor. It's also worth checking the engine earth strap... Remove, clean the ends, apply a bit of Vaseline perhaps, and re-fix.

Mine has done this on 2 random occasions over the last 5 months, I have got it started on the key each time by locking and unlocking the doors on the remote fob a few times, this may just be a coincidence though.

I believe it is or will be a starter prob but it's only done it twice on say 50 start ups.

Will it bump start?

Sounds 100% like starter motor, same problems I had with mine . . . I even starter with a new battery like you as well

It sounds very similar to my own starter woes.
The new reno starter is slightly different (longer) and does not suffer from the magnets falling off.
I siggest that it needs a rub down with £20 notes.

Thanks guys. I'm collecting the car tomorrow so I will do a write up of what happened.

I am getting my front bumper resprayed to remove the stone chips etc and it was at the body shop that it wouldn't start!

Car will be mint again once done.

Yet to decide fully if and when but NO.3 may be for sale soon??

Cheers.

Car back from the body shop now and very pleased with their work. Front end looks like new with no little white stone chips.

Starter motor had ceased. Sorry for the not very technical explanation but the small cog comes out as it should to engage with the flywheel but it won't actually turn.

I got a new one from The Starter Motor & Alternator Company. Brilliant, knowledgeable people and great service. £125 all inclusive delivered the next day before 12pm. Can't recommend them enough.

Took the guys 3.5 hours to fit and now it starts brilliantly!

Car in garage and now going to decide on whether to put up for sale. I may regret it but I've only done a few hundred miles in two years so it's not getting used.

Thanks for the replies.

Cheers.
David.

Great result in the end David, thanks for the update and feed back :approve:

You know you'll regret selling up and then end up buying another if you do sell.. ;)
