Janspeed and Air filter advice.

1. I have just ordered a Janspeed back box. I am sure i read here that there was a problem with the pipes that come with it. I think it was something about nuts needing welded???? Is this fault will common to all Janspeed back boxes or was it a one-off??? Hope someone can elaborate on this for me.

2. I am thinking about getting a Pipercross or BMC filter. I know there isn't much of a difference in them but most think the Pipercross is better made. It will probably be a BMC i get as i can get it pretty cheap compared with the Pipercross. If anyone has any preferences over the other then i would be happy to hear them. Also, will i still be able to hear the filter over the exhaust? I am worried incase the noise of the filter can be so loud that it gives the impression that the car sounds as if it's going faster than it really is. Don't want my little fat baby to sound like a chav car now do we!?!?!?

Any help would, as usual, be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Alex

i have the pipercross viper on mines mate, sounds awesome when you give it a blast.
i have a ktec exhaust and together they sound great with neither drowning the other
out.not sure how loud the janspeed exhaust is tho.

Is there a difference between the ph1 and ph2 Viper induction kits????

Just been told there was but does anyone know what the difference is????

Mines got the Janspeed back box and cats, the pipercross filter, (all came fitted when i bought my car), neither drown out the other, sounds nice.

I've got a BMC and it's a quality product. The advantage of the Pipercross is that it's easier to "plug and go". The BMC needs some technical consideration when ducting.

not like the quicksilver?

It was just too loud for me to live with i think. I may have got used to it through time. I keep the car at my mother-in laws. It's a quiet residential part of town and was a bit worried about the deep noise when putting it in the garage late at night. More 'mature' residents down there.

Did have a big smile on my face when i used it the day before leaving to come to work. Had it up around the castle. The pops and bangs from it were awesome. Think the tourists loved it!!!

Seen your advert on Pistonheads. Probably the best private advert i have seen on there. :thumb Hope it gets what it deserves mate. Looks great.

So u sold it then lol, I loved it and I never really bothered what anyone else thought of the noise tbh.

Thanks for the comments about the car, it would seem everyone really does want something for nothing.

I don't mind a bit of fabrication.

How much messing around is involved Kett???

Alex

Not much!

The inter-connects for ducting (and instruction) that come with the parts are pretty hopeless! The air-box itself, however, is a work of art.
Huge weight saving and great noise. Having been there (and done that), I'd take on the airbox project first and THEN consider a back-box.
I've reverted to an OEM back-box with BMC induction and am catagorically 100% happy with the soundtrack.

Thanks Kett,

Interesting that you have went back to the original back box. Never heard that before. What did you have before and why? After hearing your advice, i would probably have went for the BMC first, but i have already ordered from Janspeed. [smilie=doubt.gif]

I have heard Wongys' glowing report about the Janspeed but don't know if he has an aftermarket filter on his.

I had a QS sport. My main gripe with the OEM was that it was rusty looking.
QS backbox is a quality product, but I struggled to live with the drone. Janspeed is a better prospect.
I did consider fitting on of Ray's bulkheads...
...but then found that MKII OEM back boxes can be polished to a good standard (which resolved my original gripe).

Yeap the Janspeed is a great exhaust for sound - not boomy or drony like my old custom exhaust which my missus could hear from our apartment on the 49th floor plus it has a terrific rasp when you put your foot down, with pops as well.

Your price sounds high though - I got mine for 275 excluding VAT cos I live outside the EU, so with VAT should be less than 382 unless there is some delivery / courier charge as well? Suggest you get onto them I think I spoke to Dan Mullan to get a discount maybe tell him I sent you!

The box doesnt exactly fit Mk2's i.e. two of the bolts need to be welded because the threading is the wrong way round or something but was told a simple job. Cant find the mail from the member who told me this though plus mine's a Mk1 so it fits no probs.

I had a piper cross - was left on the car for years without servicing meaning when I came to clean and oil it the foam fell apart. Switched to BMC and happy with the sound and quality. Alot of owners might not realise that your supposed to clean plus oil the aftermarket filters annually plus take off the throttle body and clean with a cloth and carb cleaner - makes the car run much better as things can get clogged up a bit.

Hope this helps

Wongy,

I seen your post before about the Janspeed and called them and spoke to Dan Mullan. I did tell him you had told me to speak to him personally. He told me that they do not sell to the public anymore and that i would have to go through a distributor. He then put me through to K-Tec and they wanted £450 + vat. I since then found a place in Scotland to do it for £381 inc vat. Janspeed are now making to order so will have to wait around 4 weeks. I also asked about the fitting problem regarding welding but Janspeed have no recollection of there being a fitting problem????

As far as getting the BMC, i will wait for a couple of weeks and then make my decision. I will probably get it though. I don't have much willpower!!!!

So does the Janspeed overpower the BMC or vice versa???

Alex

Stewart,

Getting it from these guys.

Seem really good people. Emailed them and get replies back within 20 mins. Gonna get a BMC from them as well. Cheaper that K-Tech.
If you're going to get anything then tell them i gave you the number and you might get something off.
