Insurance claim.

Some of you will be aware that i wrote off my 54 plate 255 last month.

Just had the insurance company on to negotiate my claim. They conceded that the guide prices for these cars are pretty much irrelevant (£11,200!!!). I provided them with some adds off pistonheads for simillar mileage vehicles and they eventually settled at a £15K payout.

Basically, if you ever find yourself in a simllar position (and i sincerely hope not), stand your ground. I would have asked for more if i'd sold the car privately but i really can't complain as its a fair price. Plus, they were armed with some adverts of their own with a 55 plate for only £15,250.

I would love nothing more than to buy myself another vee but i am under strict instructions that i must get something which my two boys can fit in too. I really hope to be back one day though and will still remain a member.

I'm glad to hear that the insurance company didn't mess you about to much and you got a payout that you were happy with :)

Glad its sorted, I thought the car would have popped up somewhere by now or can it now only be sold on after settlement?

They reckon it'll take a couple of weeks for it to be processed and then be sold at the auctioneers.

Let's see if it turns up again !

Glad you got sorted too ...

Sorry, i'm not the sort to endorse or give free advertising. Lets just say their name rhymes with Chadmiral :)

seriously though, they were really good, my premiums weren't too bad (£700+). Although i had full no claims (protected), i expect my premium to go up, but then i may not be getting a group 20 car again anyway.

my mrs was with them and got right shafted when she wrote her car off , thanks glad u got a fair price

Glad u got things sorted out, main thing is they didn't force you to go with the 'book price' that is ridiculously undervalued!

As for Admiral, if anyone is thinking of going with them then please see my post about the dog saga! I'd never recommend them to anyone after the way they've been treating me, 3 months now and the claim still isn't settled!

Good luck with your next car :)

Thats made me feel better emma as i have just renewed my policy with them doh!!!! The thing is i have full no claims and have added the vee to a multcar thingy and its come out at £385 squid per year :) I really had enough of that fat t*at in that adverts on compare sites as they seem to be quite expencive. Hope i never have to make a claim [smilie=boohoo.gif] Its only metal, oh and lots of fibreglass after all. God it breaks my heart to see 1 more at a scrappy :(

The value of a policy is in the smoothness of the claims process and customer service - things which we never really want to test !

I had a fault claim a few years back (gf was driving) with Sky Insurance as the broker and with fully comp cover, that worked out OK but I had to negotiate the settlement based on value and condition of my car, which was written off in Germany - it was a rare homologation gt4 which they had no experience of ... There was quite a bit of tit-for-tat based on similar cars and getting a decent inspector to come out to see the car ...

I also had a no fault 3rd party claim against a fully comp driver with LV and that made use of my legal cover ... This took longer as my car was 3rd party but again I got it sorted in the end and wouldn't settle 50/50 which was the original offer ... It wasn't my fault, I had a good case so I stuck to it. Took almost a year to get my car repaired but it got done ... Again mr broker was sky but the legal cover company dealt with the claim.

Basically my experience is you have to be wise and not expect everything to run smoothely and expect to do a bit of negotiation or digging your feet in ...
