Hi Matt

What is this item? I've got some Heath-Robinson pipework connecting up my CDA in this location...

Johannesburg South Africa where I live is around 1600 - 1700 m above sea level and you get up to a 20% drop in power due to the altitude, sometimes more in hotter weather. I agree that the standard airbox is well designed but due to the power drop from the altitude a filter upgrade was in order. I bought a BMC replacement filter for the standard airbox only to find out that the part number listed only fits the MK I version. I was not a happy camper and after much ranting with BMC in Italy they kindly offered to exchange the filter and sell me the new BMC Oval Trumpet Airbox. Fitment was pretty straight forward and no additional parts were needed. I never dynoed the car for before and after results, but it seems as though the mid to top end has improved with better throttle response too. I haven't heard the PiperX or the BMC CDA for comparison, but the noise from the BMC OTA is intoxicating. I'm very happy with it.

Airbox to engine hose a tight sqeeze, but fits.

Supplied flexible hose and venturi.

IMG_1193.jpg

Feed the supplied flexible hose through the side vent where standard airbox hose fits.

Venturi fitted on the hose end in side pod.

Cut the supplied bracket to length and bend and twist.

Leave standard airbox bracket in place and bolt new bracket with existing bolt.

Late to the party here, but my Phase 1 has a BMC and a Quicksilver zorst fitted, so if anyone ever cares to have a listen, just holla and I'm there, baby.

Here the fitment on my car of a BMC as fitted by the last owner ( miketheman)

intake pipe is made of alloy (tin foil) and is flexable and will retian its shape once bent, its been put in the side scoop pointing fowards, for ram air effect i presume, dont know if the ecu with increase the fuelling as a result.

this is available from central heating suppliers as used to line flues

And yes you will find loads of crap in the filter, so clean regularly.
