Induction kits

Had a quick search on here and cant seem to find any real comparisons between the BMC and the Viper. Anyone heard both and know if either are much better than the other?

Due to my lazyness I missed out on someones VIper and have found the BMC's for alot less but don't want to be dissapointed.

Any input would be appreciated!

Cheers

I think they're much-of-a-muchness.
When fitting:
The BMC is a lovely product, but the ducting needs some thought.
The piper-x is more straight forward.

I keep thinking of a big air box, a filter inside, and a hose that draws in air.

Then I think the v6 has that already so why fit a Viper or BMC which also seems to be the above?

(and I have a viper) :)

cheers guys, still unsure of whether its necessary but then again with such an unecessary car the ridiculous seems a good idea! ;)

IMO BMC sounds better, but is a pain in the @rse top get the pipework sorted.

Viper is a straight swap.

Just remember unlike me some time ago  to clean either regularly.

Peter :)

never heard the BMC, but the viper is ok. I don't rate piperX really. but there was no quality alternative...

I seem to have spent the whole day doing research on which one to get out of these 2 and comparing prices from various places!! :s
I think I am swaying towards the BMC.....

Lucy I saw your vee again today! It seemed to be courting another black/gold vee! Best thing I guess is to find if there are any vee owners of each and listen to them and then decide what you prefer.

You see my car more than I do Nas!!! Lol
That's not a bad idea listening to both but you might have to be my chauffeur as i'm "carless" at present! :(

How odd that I see your car for the first time 80 miles away from us! Oh and the second time, the third and so on lol! I dont mind being a chauffuer cos I have an excuse to drive my vee even more then! Yay!! The best car you will ever get chauffeured in! I havent got sparco seat harnesses like yours ;) Just a factory standard vee :) Anyone in the Essex area with either? James you have a viper correct? The temptation is there for me to mod! Anyone with a BMC? Sorry Will for hijacking your thread. Will have you decided yet?

Yes I have a Evolution Viper Nas. I don't notice it as my exhaust is fully de-catted and somewhat loud. ;)

I'm told it is noticeable on a normal Vee.

Lucy,

If you fancy the BMC then give these guys a try. I got mine from there and they were cheaper than anyone else. http://www.motorsportworld.co.uk/

Mine took a wee bit of fitting but if you know that before you get it then it's no big deal.

Thanks for that Alex! That is a great price - About £50 cheaper than other places I looked at :approve:
I think I might be putting my order in later on today!!

good disscussion, i agree with james, the filter box is big enough and the air intake is in a perfect position for a rear engine car, how can this be improved upon? why fit an induction kit apart from the noise, there is more chance of picking up preheated air from the engine bay wheras the std box is sealed to the outside of the car.
personally if you can get a bmc filter to fit the std air box this will be the best option, have seen loads of upgrades on bikes using the bmc with impressive results on the dyno (the wheel of truth).
a dead cert way to prove if there is an increase is to put a portable scanner on the car like the snapon solus etc, log the outside air pressure with the engine off through the map sensor, then drive the car and map the intake pressure, the system with the least pressure drop is the one to go for. sounds complex and a fuss about but it would settle any argument. i did this with a standard filter and then a pipercross in the std air box and saw a definate improvement,
i will of course expect loads of comments, please read my post on fuel pressure.

Just another tip for anyone fitting an aftermarket filter.

There is a wee triangular shaped bracket which the standard air-box sits on. You might be tempted to remove this redundant bracket. If you do, don't lose it.

£££.££ you have been warned. ;)
