Clio HOW TO - Megane 225/230/250 Engine Into Clio 197/200

Can one of you knowledgeable chaps help me understand what is needed to fit a Megane 225/230/250 Engine into a Clio 197/200??

Specific questions I have are:
  • Engine Mounts - Is it bolt in with Clio/Megane mounts, or do you need to make custom mounts
  • Exhaust Downpipe - Custom or is someone making them?
  • Gearbox - Megane or Clio?
  • Driveshafts - Megane or Clio?
  • Clutch - Single Mass Flywheel
  • ECU - Total Standalone or adaptable to OE ECU from Megane/Clio with new loom?
  • Connection to the Clio Control systems (Speedo, Dash Etc..?)
  • Intercooler - Custom or is someone making them?
  • Radiator - Megane or Clio?
  • Intercooler Hardpiping - Custom or is someone making them?
  • Insurance - How are you getting on Insuring the car after conversion?
  • Cooling Pipework
I'm sure those of you who have already done this have the answers to my questions @stephenvenning @tutuur @DannyAG200

Gents sorry to bump on this but if you are looking. I have a 51k 250 engine with all ancilliary's inc turbo along with cup gearbox driveshafts and full wiring with ECU mapped by RS Tuning and 250 fuel pump.

I will soon have a spare 1.8 20vt lump spare

If it needs custom mounts and wiring I would just go tfsi route have plenty of info to help you for free or the straight forward 20vt but you have had that before

  • Engine Mounts - Bolt in
  • Exhaust Downpipe - Link pipe from Megane connects nearly direct to the Clio system, only need to weld over the flange/cut the mid silencer out.
  • Gearbox - Megane imo
  • Driveshafts - Depends on gearbox used
  • Clutch - Single Mass Flywheel + dci clutch or just standard 197/225 again dependingon gearbox
  • ECU - OE R26/ph.2 ECU from Megane, looms need to be adapted.
  • Connection to the Clio Control systems (Speedo, Dash Etc..?) -yes
  • Intercooler - When fitting the Megane rad the intercooler will fit too
  • Radiator - Megane imo, clio's is too small. You'll loose a/c though
  • Intercooler Hardpiping - Standard 225/forge etc.
  • Insurance - How are you getting on Insuring the car after conversion? Not, but that's because it's not possible over here
  • Cooling Pipework - custom

Well I've completed my wiring loom now, just using some of Renaults special cloth tape to wrap my loom up so it looked factory, like I said il be doing everything except the ecu coding, but I can't really say much until my build is completed, or atleast running.
I plan to have it running on the road mid August, as much as I hate giving deadlines to myself especially on something like this.

Look forward to hopefully shedding some more up to date info on building these cars
