HELP!

Apparently they can now detect the delay before the starter works and the sometimes audible solenoid click. So they think it is the starter / solenoid. BUT thats £600.

I need Scott / Clarkie..... :(

How to remove the starter motor.

Does seem to contradict itself by saying no need to remove cooler.

REMOVAL
Place the vehicle onto a two post lift.
Remove the tray under the bonnet.
Disconnect the battery.
Remove the engine covers and engine undertray.
Drain the oil from the engine.
Remove the oil filter and Modine oil cooler.
NOTE: It is not necessary to disconnect the Modine
cooler from the cooling circuit. Remove the coolant
supply pipes from the sub-frame, remove the Modine
cooler from the engine block and put the assembly to
one side. Store the Modine cooler in a clean plastic
bag to protect it from dirt.
Remove:
– the rear sub-frame,
– the front primary catalytic converter assembly and
the heat shield,
– the starter motor electric connectors,
– the starter motor mounting bolts and remove the
starter motor from the clutch cover.

Have a look at this site :-

http://www.woodauto.com/Unit.aspx?Man=VALEO&Ref=D7R17

Much to my surprise you can purchase spares for the starter.

A new starter is only about £110

It is easey to checkm voltage from ignition switch to solonoid when starting, should be 12v nominal.

If you get this at the solonoid then solonoid is faulty.

Have found in the past better to replace whole starter. This is due to setting up correctly which can be a bit of a bitch.

i am giving peter a loan car....1.2 8 valve clio...lol

he will really love the vee when he gets it back.

Yeah defiantely!

Thing is I have the car back now and its 100% fine. The stealers could not find anything wrong and as if by magic it's working again. Its strange how it clears by itself. :?

Anyway i'm sure its got to be solenoid / starter related so when dismantled and examined it should be possible to find the issue.

The intermittent fault is always the worst to find.

Could be just a loose connection inside.

Clarkie what were you doing in a Blue V6 along the M5 to-day, flames coming out the exhaust by the way.

:) :) :) :) :)

I wonder if the new battery just needed a good charge. :?

I drove the car for a few days surely that should top up the battery?

Well its fine now. Turns over easily and quicklly. BUT unless it was the battery needing a charge the fault has NOT been fixed....

I'm still confused... Clarkie will hopefully find it tho...

do you still want to have it looked at.

Think it still needs to be checked. :(

How long does it take to fully charge a new battery tho? When driving the car... :?
