help: car not starting alam/immboliser problem?

masterL

New Member
I unlocked the car but went back in the house so the doors automaticly lock if not opened, i then went back out and changed my number plate light (without unlocking the car) i then unlocked the car tried to start but nothing the ignition lights all come on, but just wont start or even try to, so the immboliser is blocking it, i then locked the car and 3-4 loud beeps sounded.

what do i do? how do i reset the immboliser if thats the problem here

Has the car been stood for some time ie could battery be drained or on it's way out? I've had similar problem on my 182, not enough power in battery to de-activate immobiliser. Might be worth giving battery a charge while someone else might be along :approve:
Other than that have you tried dash reset? Have a quick search ;)

Drove the car couple days ago, I will try jump starting it on Wednesday to see if battery is dead, hopefully its nothing major.

To reset the immobiliser you need to hold down the unlock button on the fob until there is a beep, normally about 5-10 seconds.

That just re syncs the alarm fobs fella.
If the immobilizer is still active then the light on the dash will be either flashing or on sold.

Tried holding down the botton nothing happened, but the red light is still flashing on the dashboard which i never noticed before, so does this mean the battery is too low to deactivate the immboliser?

Maybe, The coil around the barrel needs juice to energize the chip in the key to give an output. Do you have another key to try ?

How low is the battery ?

try a few things now holding down key etc, just tried to jump start from another car, and nothing, bit lost on what to do now.

when the car is locked the red immboliser light is flashing, i then unlock the car and its still flashing (i never notice it flash after i unlocked the car before) i turn the key all the ignition lights come on and then go off including the immboliser light i then turn again to start and nothing, i then take the key out and the immboliser light is still off.

Sounds like the immobilizer is switching off and the problem is elsewhere. Can you push start it, If it fires up then it would suggest a problem with the starter motor or it's circuit.

Has nothing else been disturbed when doing the number plate light ? Fuses changed Etc

I dont want to push start because if that fails i wont be able to get it back on the drive (on a hill), i didnt touch anything else just the number plate light, ive change the battery in the key fob still nothing, i will check the fuses, but cant see it being that.

There are fuses and relays in the boot too I believe, check everything. :-)

Do a search on the forum for "fuses" and read various posts about different locations of fuses.

Seems to be the same one Jim fitted to his a while back. LINK

Renault list a different part number to the one on that startermotor-alternator-store cross reference listing. Might be an idea to call them and give them the Renault part number, just in case they come up with anything else.

part number 7711134302 £241.02
Renault Clio V6 Starter Motor (MK2)
