Headlight bulb replacement problem

phillv6

New Member
My dipped beam headlight lamp failed so I bought a new one and replaced it.
The trouble is when I was replacing the lamp it looks like I have used a bit too much force while trying to seat it correctly, now the whole internal unit/reflector that holds both the Xenon and dipped lamps has dropped down and is loose within the headlight unit itself !!!

Maybe there's a clip broken or something

I've tried pulling it back into place but it won't relocate. I was wondering has anyone got any experience of how to sort this out ?

The car is due for a service soon so may let the garage sort it, but if it's quite an easy fix I'd like to sort it myself if possible

Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers,

Phill

Hey Phill (2L's)

Had the same or similar with the ph1 lamp unit possibly ages ago on ph2 also, the memory fails me sometimes... Lol anyway.. It's a bit of a faff tbh, but persevere mate. I wish I could tell you an easy fix, but was just a cast of poking ones finger into the bulb/lamp hole and pulling the rest back into place.

Have you tried Mossy? He's the chap to ask. :)

Actually just thinking for anyone searching with the same issue it maybe of great help for them to know how it can be done:

First of all the headlight needs removing from the car and this unfortunately is a bumper off job.

Inside the headlight you have a couple of white ball clips and these can dislodge or break which means the whole headlight moves making the unit unuseable. The common one to dislodge is the one near the main beam/side light bulb and the common one to break is the one near xenon. They can be both fixed but this is where long skinny fingers are needed - ideal for me.

The clip near the side light that becomes un clipped you basically have to take both rubber back covers off the headlights and get your fingers in and work the bulb holder unit back onto the ball joint - this can be easy or can be a right pain! Working space is very limited.

The clip nearest the xenon has to be removed and a replacement white ball section fitted - there is no simple fix here and can be very fiddly and time consuming. To remove the old white ball unit you have to adjust the headlight all the way down using the top plastic nut winder - think it about a 8mm. As you wind the nut top you will see this inner white ball section move down its spline until it falls off. Remove this part and throw away. You now need to get a replacement white ball section and wind it back onto its spline using the adjusting nut. Once this is on you now have too push the ball joint at bottom of this white section back into the bottom ball joint recepticle - this can be a right pain but bare with it and it will relocate.

That's about it really - as said it can be very fiddly but they can be repaired :)
