HEAD BOLTS

A

Anonymous

Hello.....

Is there any of you engine builders out there interested in some new head bolts.....these are made by ARP (famous name in race engines), they are not the usual thread as they use the rolled thread process (basically the thread is raised as opposed to cut into the bolt) this process is notably stronger they seldom snap or shear off. Drag Beetles etc use these.....

For the 21 Turbo these have been made available to me for ?100 per set. May seem dear, but when you add up the cost of std headbolts then if one should snap the cost on top of having ur bottom end tapped and drilled.....
Hey its no biggie to me, im passing an offer on to y'all........

The company have said they'd like 10 orders if they go ahead with it.

p.s I swear there is nowt in this for me......as im not as heavily into tuning as others, but I was offered it so......

Lmfao!

What's the tensile strength and approximate max torque before critical failure?

(That way I can go measure it against a std head bolt for comparison)

Just for badness

So you look like you know your shit ask em what percentage carbon steel is used to make the bolts :?: and why we should lash out on them when the block is made of soft alloy anyway :?:  :D

Hi,

They made from grade 8.8 Hi-Tensile steel and are Zinc plated. The reason for their expense is largely due to Reno using an odd thread.

I think these have a greater clamping force, thus stopping the head from lifting off the block......yeah like thats gonna happen to most of us lol

yeh but

The weak point is the block you can make the bolts as stong as you like but its only soft alloy your bolting into !!!!!!

As I say ive been offered them........although the block cant be that weak ive known more people have headbolts snap/shear than I have heard of bolts ripping themselves out the block.

Anyway they've dropped the 10 min order thing now. So it aint no drama, 1 set ordered.

Mmmmmm

Which is exactly why the expensive thread is pointless. The bolts shear off, yes, and i'll bet you a case of carling that when they go it's above the thread.
Good quality metal, strong, but far too expensive to justify it imo.
If anyone is interested i'll go shear-test a std headbolt or 2, see what they'll take.

Well, hey they aint for me............im simply making them available for others who may be interested. I said that chances are they wont have any takers cos our cars dont produce the power to lift the head off the block...........

I knew the tefal brigade would have summat to say on the subject tho

LMAO

Coolio mate, I was worried you'd think I was trying to shoot you down or something when I thought about my last post.

Tell you what though, i'll be impressed if you can find me something to stop numbers 1 and 4 liners vibrating without skimming the block and 2+3 liners.....or someone to machine some steel ones :?:

hmm dont know about the head bolts but i wounld'nt mind some arp con rod bolts :D

Ok ill ask.........tis the least I can do for my fellowship
