Has Ebay ruined car bargains?

Has ebay ruined completely ruined our chances at ever getting old skool cars at rockbottom prices?

Years ago you could knock on someones house with an old car on their drive and ask if they wanted to sell it and 80% of the time you could get it for next to nothing. Nowadays try that and its a quick check of ebay by the owner and they are likely to say it's worth £££'s.

i.e a few cars I remember stumbling across in 1998 is when I was a lad of 13 years old...

A fiat uno turbo, F411 TLK, antiskid model in the rarest colour anodise blue but unfortunatley repainted black but a good job, engine had been taken apart but came with everything, delivered (towed) to my door £50! yes fifty quid! These days its a £1200 car all day long on Ebay at least..

Another... a ford fiesta XR2, black with pepper pots and red pin stripe, sat on a drive £70, extremely good condition. These days easily worth £1000+

Axgt white J reg complete £100 taxt and mot'd

What brings me on to this is I was looking for another axgt and there is one on Ebay...

That's true, but eBay is good for sourcing bits that couldn't be available anywhere else be it car related or otherwise. But I do agree, people always say 'yeah but you could sell it on eBay for more than that'.
And I have also seen that eBay can sell things more than in shops, probably because people think that they are getting a bargain just because its 'eBay' and haven't bothered shopping around!

If your selling on ebay your alright apart from the fees but buying is silly if more than one person wants it, but thats what car forums are for cheap good bits!

My problem is that there is more and more businesses selling through ebay. There was a time when ebay was for people having a loft clear out or selling second hand things that had been sitting around that they didnt want any more. Now it seems that that a lot of companies including dealerships and auto factors use ebay to advertise their stock.

With regards to the AX, its probably quite rare now so I guess that might push the price up?

I usually stay clear of ebay. But as for the ax thats that bad given how rare they are. i sold my silver one 8 years ago and got 550 euro for it with no tax or test and a cracked screen. i regreated it as soon as i sent off the tax book. Been looking for one ever since and apart from a gt500 at mental money and a 5 door version they don't come up for sale often, even traced my old one to find out the guy i sold it too wrote it off.

Well it's gone for £1020!, I bought my first road legal axgt when I was 17 (2002), red lowered, colour coded kit, s/s exhaust, head, cam, quad lights etc etc for £1100 and not a mark on it.

My GTT has been sold and once the 19 is done i'll be looking for an axgt to vts and then turbo. mid life crisis lol

They are getting rare these days, can't remember the last time I saw one on the road,

I remember I had an axgt back in the day. Missus loved it. Sadly she blew up on the m1. Not the missus, the car. Good little cars them.

Maybe folk are just cottoning on that certain cars that were beer money to come by a few years ago could actually become classic cars.

I mean, look at 5 GT Turbos now, they were just starting to get pricey when I first started knocking about in the 19, to buy one now would be a luxury, in any state.

yes gt turbos are to dear now , i have a scrap c reg one and i want £2000 for it now lol , got to love ebay ))
