Gearbox failure *Again! 02-2011!

Wouldn't be the clutch if the engine was turned off and in nuetral Milky. That sounds pretty much game over for the shafts a bearings inside if you say the driveshafts look ok.

Sounds like my Volvo/Ford gearbox conversion will be very much worthwhile in the future! lol

100% that is the retainer of some sort come off the driveshaft gear (diff gear?). If u ask sledgehammer on here to have a gander through the history on his (spet 2008) it should have the part numbers im 100% on that noise!

A very strong Volvo T6 box with a cheap and easy to make bellhousing adaptor to suit. A much better option will soon be the VW 6 speed DSG box with uprated clutches......much more technical in the electronic department though.

BTW I added this link to our Knowledge Base. It might be useful to some technical minds.

PK Gearbox

Is it possible to download this somewhere?

Got myself a new gearbox. It's a custom box. I got it from a guy who is the Vee specialist here. Comparable to SG motorsport I think?
He had three of this gearboxes made in the past. The casing is from another type. I think the renault master. (not sure about this) which can hold bigger bearings. The diff. is custom made and the gears are from an MK2. The clutch is also a custom one. It should be okay up to 500 Nm (370 lb-ft) 8)

Also planning to change the engine to mk2 specs in the future. :race:

I put the Vee in storage for now. Got to get to work again [smilie=doubt.gif] Will change the gearbox in my next holiday (Jan. to March)

I tried various means to download it, but had to be satisfied with just linking to them.

You could make 21 screen grabs and print them out if you're desperate.

I think it is some form of flash based application/web control so screen grabs only I suspect ... Personally I have been known to take my laptop into the garage for referencing stuff like this (I don't have a printer believe it or not) but oily fingers and touch pads don't mix LOL Not sure if the link loads on an android phone but I might give it a go ...

Finally got around to check out the gearbox and with some help of the people here :approve: Found out that the circlip holding the cup(which contains the three legged roller bearing part/driveshaft) into the gearbox has come off. Damage inside gearbox is minimal.

New parts arrive tommorow.
Vee should be up and running in no time [smilie=yay.gif]

Good stuff :approve:

This happens from time to time and is fairly easy to diagnose, IIRC this was suggested in another thread by someone ...

After 2000 miles the gearbox failed again! It makes a ratlling noise in 2/5/6 when driving along.
Drained the oil: still gold, no particles
Took driveshafts out. still okay

Sounds like a bearing inside the box [smilie=yay.gif]
There's also a hydraulic valve lifter knocking in the engine.....

Took the Vee to the storage where it can rest for at least a year... [smilie=icon_aaargh.gif]

Does somebody know the part number of the right drive shaft bearing? The bearing sits in the lower engine mount.

Ball bearing number? 6208 C3 RS.... or whatever. Does somebody know the bearing number on the vee?

Ball-Bearings-all-models-.jpg

Make sure it is the right designation, but

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/62082RS-6208-2RSC ... 6944303796

Anorak tip, last two digits of any bearing number will give you the inside diameter, ie 6208 = 08x5=40mm bore. Also c3 designation means the bearing has by design higher clearance than a ' normal' bearing, useful sometimes when running at higher temperatures so the clearance is maintained, hope this is of use?

I don't know the bearing number. I can't read a number of the bearing on my car therefore I asked here.
The bearing in the post above was an example of what I meant with bearing type.

If you have the bearing number (6208 C3 RS), just get it from any supplier. Doesnt have to be Renault, as the number is unique to the bearing size/type.

Good suggestion Phil :approve: though hopefully Renault don't add Vee tax for bearings ...
