Gearbox differences.

Is there a huge difference between Ph1 and Ph2 gearboxes?

From what I can find, and that isn't much, is that the ratios are different. To be honest that goes straight over my head.

Would putting a Ph2 gearbox into my Ph1 make enough difference in drivability / performance to make the costs worthwhile?

The ph2 box is lower geared (in the lower gears) so the engine is in its power band quicker, which means it accelerates faster. Makes the car feel more alive and you certainly notice the difference, but it’s not life changing. I did it once when parts were cheaper, it’s nice to have, but I wouldn’t do it again unless I was replacing a knackered gearbox.

^^^ This is probably the most sensible opinion Brian.

I think the ‘V6 Trophy look’ with cromodoras are the best Ph1 upgrades (and you’ve nailed that).
Going forwards is a bit of a money pit, but initially include: Trophy coils, fitting recaro seats with lowered runners, considering suspension upgrades.
The mentalists start changing interior, fit race cages, consider extreme weight savings, drive-train improvements, piggyback ECUs, 6-pot brakes with Trophy cooling, forced induction options.

Thanks guys.

Seats are already done...Cobra RSR

Suspension already done...KW V3

Already got Scott keeping an eye out for Trophy coils.

Considered both new manifolds set-up and half cage but decided not to go that route.....famous last words and all that

Love the way the car both looks and drives now so will settle with it as it is for a while, although not ruling out the gearbox swap yet.

I did the gearbox swap and won't like to go back to the MK1 box soon. MK2 ratios make the car much more alive and faster. Considering that the MK1 is 40 kilo lighter as well :race: :approve:
