Fuel sender unit out of stock

Noticed my fuel guage was not telling the truth. It got stuck on the way back from Le Mans last year but then seemed to behave itself. However last week I noticed that the level had been on 3/4 for a long time and I now use it as my daily driver so the level should have gone down. Went to fill it up to see if it could unstick it. 58 litres later I realised I had a problem. Booked the car in with Renault and got the warranty involved. Saddly the part is not even back order France which means it could be weeks before they get the part. Not cheap either at £400 for the sender and sealing kit!!! Cant believe this part is not used on other models!!! Only been without it for a day and feel lost........

Anyone else had one replaced on a MK2?

Not come across the problem on a MK 2 (yet)

I see what you mean about the price!! and Renault states "consult us" for availability that sounds bad. :(

I am sure the fuel pump is only about £200!!!! Hopefully will get the car back together so i can drive it until the part arrives....

Hopefully will get the car back tomorrow so will give it a go. The needle moves up so dont think a reset will do it....:(

Thanks steve but its a warranty job so they will need to source it themselves to garantee work.

You can buy an uprated pump (which will still achieve the same results) for way less money than that ....

Tim

Full details please Tim, might be useful if this is to become an issue with MK2s.

Thanks

if its warranty you shouldnt be paying so why does the price matter...???

Just a thought...

The pump and sender units I believe as seperate parts. Its the sender which is faulty. Dont need to uprate the fuel pump either as I am running standard. And the major issue is I dont want to give the waranty company any come back about non standard parts for any potential future claims.

If its any use i do have a spare and would be happy to LEND IT to you for however long it takes, however, try and get the old one from the dealer as it may be repairable with a cut and shut from another car, even broken it has a value to me.
i dont rally want to sell this one because of the many problems i have heard about the pumps failing and i have allready modified this one for myself, but its too cold outside to get the job done. will happily modify one for anyone but have not come across this sender issue. get in touch .

tim, can you buy an uprated pump that fits straight in? if so let me know as i cannot find one. i am having to mod the holder to get a better pump in. cost to do this inc pump is around 140 quid but you are still stuck with the same fuel pressure, to mod the pressure reg is a further 100 quid, but it does give a healthy boost in midrange power on a std motor,

makes perfect sense tim but the walbro pump i use is a pig to fit in the holder, what i amlooking for is a pump that fits straight in, the one i use is rated at 255 lph, sound familiar?

Tim/Spike
The pump was a 255 I believe. Didn't think it was such a hard fit but I didn't do the job initially.
I bought it as it had been an upgrade that Matt Black on Cliosport had done when he needed better fuelling and he said it was a straight fit......?? Obviously not!
Hope you get it sorted.

not really a straight fit, more like a days performance as the walbro pump is a different size all round. i wonder if walbro have changed the spec/size? if you use a walbro pump from a ducati 916 this does go straight in, but its not got the output of the 255 evo pump. it has got a better output than the std reno pump though.
thanx anyway for your help.

Hi can anyone confirm if the sender is separate to the pump. Gauge is showing full all the time and as I have the car stripped down might as well change it. Cheers

Have they been known to stick? Will take a look once fuel gets low as I have a near full tank and believe best nearly empty to remove the pump
