Fuel pump failure

you may have to add a bit more rubber inside the cradle to hold the pump firm as they come in a few dia's and theres 2 different dia 19 in tank pumps i have seen.

Make sure you change the fuel filter and a good move is to sweep a magnet about if possible in the tank as there will be rust in there. of course if its full of fuel then thats a problem.

Ok i am sure ill post before refitting etc. Will be ordering a fuel filter i beleive they are more easily available.

Thanks for the tip on the magnet pass. It has £10 of fuel which i was planning to empty into two jerry cans so ill give the tank and good shake.:D

Well skyline pump ordered next the filter hopefully will have all for the weekend.

Tonight i plan on removing and getting all ready for install. Pics to follow.

Well here are some pics as promised.
Looks like there was an access panel after all........

Also upon removing the pump from the tank we noticed that the hose that connects to the walbro pump inside the tank was disconect. I guess this explains why no fuel was travelling. I can only think that force poped the hose off.

yes theres an access panel to the fuel sender as has been mentioned more than once. Theres no access to the fuel pump without dropping the tank unless you cut the boot floor from the access panel!

If the hose has come off its because the clip has either corroded or someone was in there before and never tightened it correctly.

Even dead heading the pump to check for pressure won't pop the hose off.

So what are you gonna do? Just put the pipe back on then sell the pump on or fit the new one when it arrives?

Your fuel filter bracket is in very good condition.

I did take your word for it thats why i went ahead and dropped the tank, just noticed the hatch whilst i was underneath.

I will replace the fuel pump and fuel filter now that i got this far. Should out live the car once changed. Will just hold on to the original pump and bin the original filter.

Everything came away easily including the filter bracket will copper grease the bolts on re-fitting. Just have to wait for the pump to arrive and collect the filter at the weekend.

here is the one i am waiting for

the look of that hose clamp in the back it seems a cheap clip. buy a decent one i say prevent that happening again.

How was the original pumps pick up sock? When i done my blue chammys it was choked with rusty crap, which is what i reckon caused the pump to fail.

pumps arrived its a walbro gss341 saved myself £15 so not too bad the kit it came with is complete.
Will test the old one as well as its only been run for 36k miles and if it was down to the pipe beeing disconected its worth keeping as spares/selling it on.

Will probably assemble the and install ready for next week when i get a mo.
