Fuel cap

Hi everyone, I dont know if its just my fuel cap or there all like this, but i opened it up today to fill up and there was a puddle of water inside the surroundings, I guess its off all the rain over the weekend. When putting the cap back in place there seems to be a slight gap at the bottom so when rain runs down it goes in, its just not quite flush when in posistion. Can anyone check theres and see if theres a slight gap??? I dont think my cap etc is damaged or anything, Thanks!

Hey Steven,

I've got an identical problem with my fuel cap protruding at the bottom, as you can see in the photo. I've spoken to my (trustworthy) Renault Dealership and they advised that the tube that leads to the petrol tank is sitting off true, so when you lock the fuel cap into the top it is out by about 2/3mm at the bottom. Because of the limited space to access the area and rectify the situation, I'm leaving getting mine sorted until next March when the cambelt is due. I made sure the green rubber seal the fuel cap sits on is in good condition and that a seal is made so water isn't getting into the petrol tank. Make sure the drip hole in the surroundings is clear of debris and any water that makes its way in should drain away.

Hi Andy

Yer thats what mine is like, so how would you go about rectifying the problem, im sure it can be done with out our trusty Renault chaps! Just dont wanna go and pay a visit and spend more money then I have to.

Remove the torq screws, remove the outer ring and place rubber washes behind the ring and bodywork, tighten back up and view the difference. Alter the thickness of washes until inner and outer fit flusher. :D
